tumblr vs twitter traffic

What is your observation on the quality of tumblr vs twitter traffic?

According to my stats is a no brainier, tumblr wins in every category - engagement, bounce rate, retention and even sales.
Actually in terms of bounce rate, retention and engagement on a free site tumblr traffic performs amazingly well, average ~45% bounce rate, 4+ pages per visit, average visit duration of 5+ min, ~30% returning visitors.
Now if it could only perform that great with pay sites and sales...

what are your findings in that regard, tumblr or twitter?

My observations are same as yours, but it seems to be harder to get visitors from Tumblr. At least with the way I have done it. Link in Twitter message is more prominent than in Tumblr post. By the way, do you embed the link into the picture or to the Tumblr text area or both?

Yep, tumblr tends to have better quality and its been like that for a while when it comes to adult.

Tumblr has a huge adult fallowing and it performs great for adult, twitter may perform better in other verticals.

I know guys used to run voucher related offers on twitter and did quite well.

Well i guess how easy it is to pull traffic depends on the campaign used, for me is roughly the same, I guess for some it could be the other way around.
Otherwise I use both, on some blogs I link the picture as well as link in the description on some just linking the picture, when there is link in the description it's easier to pull traffic but is also tricky not to get the blog terminated...

+1 for tumblr, follow the rules and don't get flagged though..

good tidbits of info here, good read!

let me add an other question though: did you use Vine for promoting stuff back in the days when porn wasn't really filtered? How did it work out for you?

Although I get more traffic from Tumblr, Twitter's traffic is better quality in terms of bounce rate and TOS.

tumblr hands down for me. much better quality

Twitter seems to be great for branding purposes - getting your name out there, while Tumblr seems to be better at actually getting traffic to your website.

Tumblr wins here vs Twitter but it sucks when you lose a 10K plus followers account deleted. They don't even consider restoring.

EddyTheDog 07-27-2015 11:19 AM

You will always get more SE traffic from a good Tumblr blog - That has to be a win...

it' really sucks, at one point I was convinced that they terminate any porn blog as soon as it starts gaining serious ground. I use custom made script as opposed to bot that has all posts for given blog in a database so if a blog gets deleted I make a new one that that has all the posts of the old one in its queue. It still hurts but it's easy to pick up the pieces...

Yeah I tend to lean toward this line of thought too. It's not that you can't get traffic out of it but the traffic is just rubbish. Well, it would seem that twitter traffic is so bad that even twitter is not doing that great financially lol
