Whats the best tool to convert videos to mp4?

I was using handbrake but it seems to crash alot lately i dont think its been updated. what do you use?

Rob 07-28-2015 09:00 PM

I've always batch converted out of Adobe Premiere - have been since the early 2000's. I know there are other ways to do it, but my way works and if it ain't broke...

Bladewire 07-28-2015 09:28 PM

Youtube or ffmpeg or a very very last resort would be freemake.com

The Porn Nerd 07-28-2015 09:57 PM

Any Video Converter (Pro).

Fox Video Converter.

DVD Videosoft also has converters.

Babaganoosh 07-28-2015 10:25 PM

Ffmpeg all the way.

WorstDrug 07-28-2015 11:00 PM

If you're doing it manually and you use a Mac, I recommend Miro Video Converter. If you're automating this process to run server-side (e.g. for user uploads), then you're a programmer and you know to ask on Stack Overflow instead of on this forum. ;-)

ffmpeg..

Tom.K 07-29-2015 12:47 AM

m00 converter - you can actually choose bitrate instead guessing with numbers for quality like in handbrake - great when you have lots of files to convert to same resolution/bitrate or for single conversion
adobe media encoder - great for big batch of different resolutins/bitrates

If you're on a Mac, installing and running ffmpeg + GPAC/MP4Box is trivial.

Install homebrew

Homebrew ? The missing package manager for OS X

then install the ffmpeg packages, the flaac modules and also install GPAC / MP4Box.

AlexTmz 07-29-2015 01:31 AM

use Ffmpeg

CurrentlySober 07-29-2015 01:33 AM

We are using Xillisoft Conveter Ultimate from xillisoft. One of the best

leg4 07-29-2015 02:19 AM

I use Handbrake

RazorSharpe 07-29-2015 05:45 AM

When I encode server side, I simply use a service ( Cloud Video Encoding/Transcoding Software as a Service | Brightcove Zencoder )

However, it looks like you want to convert locally and for that I use:
Video Software | Download Movavi Video Suite ? Best Video Creator!

Them claiming to be fast isn't a gimmick, I've tried almost all the converters that they are pitting themselves against here:
Movavi Video Converter ? Download | Fastest conversion of any video format
and movavi is in fact a whole lot faster ...

I've been using Handbrake for years and never had a single crash, pc or mac. Maybe it's your system.

It looks like there was an update June 9 but it did come with a warning, https://handbrake.fr/news.php but I'm using that version with no issues.

Over the years I have processed tens of thousands of videos using Handbrake CLI and a little batch application called DropFolders but that hasn't been updated since 2010 so now I just use the Handbrake batch system.

Best free desktop mp4 encoder ever. :2 cents:

Hi,

Don't see any pricing on your site.

Nevermind, I see pricing on the order page. I also see ioncube is required. What is proprietary about your encoder? Doesn't it just use opensource tools?

Certainly pricing is only on the order page.

Tremendum Transcoder uses external tools which are open source. All the code in TT uses a propietary PHP license and has nothing to do with the external tools it uses.

If you want to try it without any limits I can give you a one month trial without any compromises. It makes adding new content to paysites a very simple and comfortable task. :)

Any Video Converter. :2 cents:

brandonstills 07-30-2015 01:45 PM

If you have the tech chops I would recommend ffmpeg. It has the most options and is super simple if you know your way around the command line.

adka89 07-30-2015 08:49 PM

ffmpeg, how-tos are available all over the internet. I'm not that comfortable with command line but once I got a setting that works, encoding becomes a breeze.

HomerSimpson 07-31-2015 07:04 AM

I use Freemake Video Converter... Just d'n'd videos and click MP4, pick a bitrate/template and that's about it...
