OMG the people at Fox News are smart

OMG the people at Fox News are smart. I just got it.

Fox News has limited the debate to 10 hopefuls. Fox News is choosing who gets to be on stage based on poll numbers. The only way to get your poll numbers up is to say incredible things like Donald is doing, and to advertise. There is no better way to reach republicans but to advertise on Fox News. And thanks to Donald Trump, the upcoming debate on Fox next week will be the single biggest TV event Fox has ever produced, drawing top dollar for ad space. Genius.

imabro 07-30-2015 08:20 AM

Time not a factor? How many minutes should each candidate have to speak if they use your idea of letting everyone participate? Silly boy

what do think about trump being pres??? thing for me is this: you do the usual stuff, you get the usual results... the USA can't really take any more usual results and that's a fact :2 cents:

I don't know...

But in the past, didn't republicans have to win things like the Iowa straw poll? This time, at least so far, Iowa doesn't seem to matter. Am I missing something?

dyna mo 07-30-2015 08:37 AM

heads-up, the debate isn't limited to the top 10, so it's wrong to exclaim candidates need to say incredible things to make it to the first debate

and FOX's production and broadcast of last year's super bowl's certainly won't be eclipsed by a republican debate in august.

Only the top ten are on the 9pm debate. The others get to debate each other at 5pm.

Not so sure about that. The Republicans will vote Republican, and the Democrats will vote their party line. They need to reach people like myself who consider themselves independent or Democrats that might switch.

I've already decided I am not going to give this too much consideration until the final candidates are chosen and go off into their final debates. Until then it's just noise.

The problem with politics is that there is a certain path to the White House, and certain boxes you must check. Most candidates are former or current mayors of large cities, governors, or Congressmen or Senators. On one hand Hillary has all of those boxes checked, and frankly, no one is more qualified to be President. But at the same time I wonder what would happen if we took a straight up businessman like Trump and put him in office.

Would a businessman like Trump be able to cut through the red tape and get shit done? Or would a businessman like Trump discover for the first time in their life that they are in fact not in charge, and when they want to get one thing done they discover that Congress or the House or the UN or World Community or the general US population refuses to go in that direction?

Talk Walker for example. Didn't he say he was going to have a two billion dollar surplus, but instead is still running a billion dollar deficit? It's easy to create goals, but once you get inside and you are in charge it's impossible to get anything accomplished. I mean... Imagine you are the CEO of your company, but nearly half of the people in your company do not believe in you or your goals. Then imagine that a percent of those people will intentionally fuck things up and try to blame them on you and your goals or policies. That's how our government works.

fringe candidates @ 9 am in the broom closet:thumbsup

crockett 07-30-2015 09:56 AM

If I owned MSNBC I would host a republican debate but instead of questions, I'd put them all in a ring wearing those sumu wrestler outfits and make them fight each other while they race on a ninja warrior type obstacle course..

Winner takes all..

with 16 candidates FOX couldn't cram them all into a single debate anyway and give each candidate time to answer the questions, it's more than fair to handle it as they are,

even rachel maddow agrees

Margin of error makes Fox News cuttoff in make-or-break debate arbitrary | MSNBC

this isn't about ratings, this is simply part and parcel to the process. you can't run the first debate any later without it running into the 2nd debate's time spot.

ClaireMonroe 07-30-2015 10:42 AM

all news outlets are sensationalists. if they aren't then they will ultimately fail.

LAJ 07-30-2015 11:19 AM

This will no doubt be huge. I hope it plays in Montreal since we'll be at the YNOT Grand Prix when this is happening. The comedy factor will be HUGE.

crockett 07-30-2015 12:03 PM

The best part of this, is no one wants to watch to hear what these dimwits have to say about issues. They only want to watch, because it's gonna be a train wreck..

In others news of dumb things Republican candidates did today..

Rick Perry challenged Trump to a pull up contest..

I think we are all just pointing and laughing at the monkeys throwing poo in the zoo.. There is really nothing of a serious note to the current GOP race.. It's really just a bunch of monkeys in a zoo..

I'd bet on Chris Christie in that case.

PVR set! Though I'm sure highlights will be on all night after that. The serious ones will be on Fox. The funniest ones will be on MSNBC.

CDSmith 07-30-2015 02:24 PM

They need to run the debate like the playoffs. Held in an octagon. 8 go in, top 4 move on. The other 8 go in, top 4 move on.

Final 8 go in, one is declared victor.

The rest are killed.

You're half-right. The main debate is limited to 10. The other 8 or so have to debate earlier in the day during the pre-show. I think Lindsey Graham said he would boycott it, calling it the "kids table". Rick Santorum said in an Interview with Rachel Maddow (!) that he would still go even if he was not on the main stage.

I think all of them should be on stage together. I hate Rick Santorum but he's actually a pretty good speaker, and I think he could hold his own against anyone else on the stage. And I while I also dislike Chris Christie, he's a fantastic speaker and a pretty good (but evil) politician, and he would destroy Donald Trump in any debate.

The way Fox has this setup is unfair to the last 8 of the 18 candidates. They should all Boycott the debate.

Just another reality show!!!!! Get your popcorn ready...

It is sad that I think the President of the USA spot is a joke. So, might as well enjoy the un easy not politically correct statements of Trump... HA

They had a chances with Obama, how much of his policies were blocked?

The feeling I get is most in the US want stricter gun controls, better medical care, schools, immigration control, etc. What's stopping them?

No, you are completely wrong. See **********, the difference between you and me is I actually participate in the American voting process, you watch it from afar through liberal blogs. and i have zero problems with splitting it two sessions, just like your boy Rachel maddow and her expert polling expert both .

She doesn't do any polling. She quotes NBC polling but she also quotes Quinnipac, ABC / Washington Post, CNN/ORC and even Fox.

i couldn't give 1 single shit about maddow's sexuality, in fact i had no idea she was a gay until you just mentioned it. "your boy" is a figure of speech here in America. lindsey graham will whine about anything, i'd complain too if my poling result was 3% and i wasn't in the top. of course he's going to whine, whining doesn't make it right ********** and it certainly doesn't cull the group of 16 down to a manageable for television amount.

and heads up yet again, i didn't state maddow does polling, i stated she had an expert polling expert on her show, the clip i linked to, and HE and her both thought the field should be split into two groups of 8 for 2 debates that night.
