UK -- Cameron threatens to shut down free porn

Free porn websites could be shut down within months, says David Cameron - News - Gadgets and Tech - The Independent

Read the article ...

Quote:

[D]avid Cameron could force porn websites to shut down if they don?t put restrictions in place to stop under 18s viewing adult videos.

The industry will be given the chance to install age verification controls of its own, to ensure that children can?t see porn. But if they fail to, sites could be turned off entirely, the Government has said.

?I want to see age restrictions put into place or these websites will face being shut down,? Cameron said in a statement.
By what mechanism of law or regulation IDK ...

He seems to have something personal with porn, doesn't he have better things to do?

So has this policy improved revenue for adult companies in Germany or has there be no affect?

I would think restrictions are a good thing. Make people PAY to see porn. That's the idea, isn't it?

Age verification doesn't need any payment.

With porn being behind some wall (figuratively), I think that "regular" channels to get porn will get bypassed even more; including your paysite.

it's a stupid move when people can just go to any .com or whatever instead

but there are german companies that live very well with it

the question would be: how to implement this on a world wide basis?

It could be implemented by Visa/Mastercard (and all alternative billing methods) and if you want to use them, you are also responsible when someone sends you traffic from sites with free porn - so there would be no way for them to monetize their traffic anymore and they die out

aka123 07-31-2015 09:28 AM

Unless they ban presenting women in photos; new promoting model will be porn with big stars on critical places or clothed models; what many "porn sites" essentially are content wise.

If porn without age verification is banned it is not about free porn; it is about showing porn without age verification. There is difference.

I could for example establish closed network with zillions of sites (not all mine); visitors just establish username and password and go through age verification and there you have. It could be even duplicate from current porn offering, but just under age verification. It would of course cost to belong into this network; I mean it would cost for the webmasters/ paysites.

Biggest tubes, etc. would probably form this kind of networks anyways. So, tubes wouldn't die and neither their business model, it would contradictory grow even stronger. LOL. :)

Phoenix 07-31-2015 09:38 AM

done universally it would be great for the industry

we had this in Germany 10 years ago already

ClaireMonroe 07-31-2015 10:15 AM

Given his current cabinet, I'm surprised porn isn't banned completely.

DVTimes 07-31-2015 10:36 AM

it sure sucks

Barry-xlovecam 07-31-2015 11:33 AM

So far it is a lot of hot air. When it comes to the ccTLDS the country can regulate its own domain registrations and the root server resolutions.

Where it gets sticky are in the gTLDs and other country ccTLDs.

Cyber Fucker 07-31-2015 11:47 AM

The dude is out of his mind, he has no idea about technical aspects of anything and he is not taking care of real problems that his country is facing now but he seeks problems there were there is no problems. I can't believe people elected his party again to rule.

Anyway what is he thinking even by claiming he is going to shut down websites ? What about websites that are hosted in other countries? What does he mean by shutting them down? DNS block or what?

No shit, I can't believe this is even happening. In normal country army would be send already to enforce the order and here wtf. And he is moaning about cutting legal emigration from UE where people come to legally and honestly work while now 1000s of illegal Africans are pounding the border without passport, documents, legal basis or anything.... this is insane.

About 8 years ago I received a letter all in German. Couldn't understand a single word apart from the .de name I owned. Sent them back 2257 records thinking I was in the clear. Few months later I was fined 8000 something Euros :upsidedow

This kind of crap is just politics. Cameron is just playing up to his base. He could care less about enforcement. This kind of thing generates good sound bytes and keeps him looking good to the old ladies.

should have asked a german ;)

but you cannot own a .de without address in Germany - there was the problem probably

you cannot even redirect let's say freeones.de to freeones.com

but this is why all .de are totally clear of free hardcore porn - it's a felony offering it without age verification and your address in the WHOIS has to be german - which makes you easily traceable

getting rid of 80% of the free porn and putting the rest in dark corners where the average wanker cant find it would be more than enough

LeRoy 07-31-2015 01:43 PM

Hopefully this happens but not likely.

Not going to happen. The only thing that will happen is that instead of freebie sets and videos there will be full sets and videos.

Tubes got already mentioned and otherwise; already in the times of porn magazines those were circulated amongst people. With today's social media and sharing, sharing porn will be massive if porn is otherwise behind age verification.

How did I get my first computer games? From friends of course. Well, at that time those were from my father's friends actually, but anyways. Later on from my friends too. How did I get Doom? From a disk from a friend.

i can post for the 10,000th time that it IS already done right now and still people post "it cannot be done"

sometimes I feel like i am trying to teach algebra to turtles

This could be really bad. It's bad enough already, I can't even access sites like gfy.com when I am using someone else's mobile that hasn't verified their age.

So what cannot be done? I know that you mentioned about the German age verification system and I am not denying it, but it seems that there is still quite a lot of free porn. Probably in the possession/ available to Germans too?

I am not saying that some age verification law/ system can't be done. That is not at all what I am saying. Of course that can be done. I commented about free porn (within the law) and the circumventing the law (in the grey area/ outside the law).

ok - for the 10,001th time: the problem is when only one country does it

if everyone would use age verification for his sites - and the user had to pay a fee to get verified - the porn isn't free anymore already - and the site owner get commissions when the user signs up through their site

this does exist already, that is not a new idea

Control2000, das jugendschutzskonforme Age - Verifikation System - Jugendschutzsystem (AVS) in Deutschland seit 2001
ueber18.de

(just 2 examples that still exist)

if it was a felony showing porn without age verification it would force site owners to use it.

already at that point money is made

Okay, why the user would have to pay a fee to get his/her age verified? Isn't collecting that totally up to the website? I already verify my identity time to time and totally free (well, not all in all, but verification doesn't cost anything extra).

Everyone should move to a decentralized internet that can't be shut down. Something like the deepweb but easier to access.
The technology should be there to move away from big corporations controlling the internet.

mikesouth 07-31-2015 05:48 PM

so it starts with .de then moves to .co.uk then wherever and eventually to .com

It has to start someplace but I for one am all for it if for no other reason than it will be death to tubesites and their lock on SERPs

personally I dont WANT a surfer that doesnt have a credit card on my paysites, all he does is cost me money.

If written correctly I would fully support age verification in the US I have been approached about this by one of my US congressmen, I suspect its a while coming but it IS coming.

Not necessarily. It's technically possible to let Googlebot index all of your content, even if it's behind a paywall/protected entry.

The Republicans are busy with controlling other aspects of peoples lives, such as abortion, voter fraud, healthcare, taxes, gun control and trying to buy the next presidential elections. Sooner or later, they will come back to the 2257 shit and whatever else they can come up with to begin to shut down online porn. After all, they think they know what's best for the rest of us. So it's just a matter of time before the new Republican Fascist Party turns its beady little eyes on freedom of speech.

Paul Markham 08-01-2015 10:02 AM

When there was nothing else, we wanked off to a mail order catalogue. So all that will happen is everyone will go to FB, YT, Vimeo, Twitter or a 100 other sites.

That's if they can block all the free porn sites. What are the odds, without the UK population going mad at Political censorship?

He could make a difference very easily. give away free copies of Net Nanny.

I understand what you are saying (at least I think so), but I don't just agree with it as a whole. And I am not denying anything what has happened in Germany. You know Germany better.

The situation is different if you apply this thing to whole world, as for starters the competition is harder.

Yes this exists underground, the infrastructure has been there for years and is being utilized. The day might come when legitimate adult has to migrate but it will be a lot of effort and wont be fun. We need to continue to stand up and fight for our rights as a legitimate industry, plain and simple.

Barry-xlovecam 08-01-2015 12:27 PM

Jusdiasm, Christiaity and Islam universally all condemn pornography. India and China legislate pornography as illegal.

That is the majority of the world. The sooner you get used to that and learn how to work around it legally the better off you will be.

Porn is a fart in an elevator often in the extreme ...
