Very shocking. He was always one of the most entertaining, iconic wrestlers ever.
His wrestling character reminded me of.... imagine a guy in school who is a total a-hole and you're just biding your time, waiting for an opportunity and an excuse to beat the absolute crap out of him. Roddy had a talent to convey this type of personality to the audience impeccably, and people paid good money to see someone attempt to beat the crap out of him. This is the essence of wrestling entertainment. In real life, he truly was a tortured soul. He didn't deserve the hand he was dealt while growing up, and much of his adult life. I'd like to think in his later years, he was able to find some semblance of inner peace. One of the great ones, Roddy Piper. RIP :( |
Not Roddy :(
I still followed him to this day on Twitter! When i was into Wrestling when i was younger he was always one of my faves. Being Scottish n' all. RIP Roddy... :( |

RIP, As a kid growing up in the 80's he seemed to always be front and center.
I remember seeing a preview for him on Celebrity wife swap a couple years ago, which I had never watched. I tuned in just because he was such an iconic figure for me growing up. He seemed like a good guy, husband and father. Very sad |
As a kid watched the shit outta wrestling...
Hulk Hogan Rowdy Roddy Piper Andre The Giant etc... |
Yeah I watched wrestling then too... RIP Roddy.
'They Live' also a cult classic. |
In my early working life back in the 80's I had occasion to meet a lot of the wrestlers; Hogan, Blackwell, the Baron (claw guy), Ken Patera, Jesse Ventura, Nick Bockwinkle, Bobby The Brain Heenan, the Sheik, and tons of others. But Piper, the one actual former Winnipegger, was one I wish I had've. Few could create drama both in and out of the ring like he could.
They Live --- that alley fight between Piper and Keith David... still epic. RIP George Toombs (Aka; Rowdy Roddy Piper) was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on April 17, 1954 and was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was of majority Scottish descent, with some Irish on his mother's side. He attended Windsor Park Collegiate. By the age of 15, he made his professional wrestling debut in Winnipeg against Larry "The Axe" Hennig. Roddy's wiki page is a great read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roddy_Piper |
Sad day he had been battling with cancer for years.
