German groom killed by best man in forestry accident days before the wedding
 

A freak machinery accident cost a German man his life days before his wedding.

The tragic event was caused by the man who was planning to serve as the best man, according to the German newspaper Münchner Merkur. He was operating a large machine that somehow lost control and crashed into the car with his best friend inside.

The tragedy occurred Monday as the groom to be was with his friend, his future bride and their two children in an outing in a wooded area in Thuringia, authorities told the outlet.

The children, ages 9 and 11, were going to get to ride in the best man's harvester, a 12-ton machine that cuts down wood.

The 31-year-old groom and his fiancé watched in a nearby car but an accident occurred and the harvester veered off its path and crushed the vehicle - killing the groom.

The best man was also injured and taken to a hospital, the newspaper reported.

The couple was supposed to get married this weekend but instead the family is receiving counseling, authorities said.
