A year after shooting, Ferguson faces financial toll

Quote:

Several businesses that were looted or vandalized during riots in Ferguson are gone and its budget deficit has grown as costs, including overtime pay for the police force, have increased. Revenue from sources such as traffic fines, long used to pad municipal finances, has dropped and job cuts for city employees could follow.

Way to think that through citizens

Before the riots the place was a dump. I drove through it all the time, years ago, not realizing I did. Discount Cigs, liquor, pawn shops and check cashing places. Too far from st. louis to get any of the percs of being near a major city.

brassmonkey 08-06-2015 07:34 AM

you really think looting destroyed the finances?? civil suits are the bigger toll :2 cents::2 cents:

Costing cities money, is the only way to force them into putting their cops in check. When cities are faced with large civil suites and have to pay out large lawsuits then their insurance rates become too much.

In turn they are forced to give their officers more training and properly discipline them for their actions..

Money is the key to stopping police brutality..

yep...a great case study how civil rights industry brings civil suits that financially cripple a city & hurt the cities citizens, predominantly african americans. nice to see rich black lawyers looking out for poor black people.

:)

pigshit...post 1 link to 1 time in human history a city "trained their officers better" in response to lawsuits. no, the cities raise taxes or go bankrupt.

L-Pink 08-06-2015 08:31 AM

Of course the "thug lifestyle" which brought this about is never mentioned. That whole day started with the theft from and assault on an old store owner.

Just keeping it real .....

Juicy D. Links 08-06-2015 08:32 AM

they need to lock up all the thugs and put in some high rise building to rise out the afros

What money are they supposed to use to give their officers more training and more pay?

Guess that's why people don't sue doctors for Mal practice, drug companies or insurance companies whom do illegal shit..

As usual though, you can't seem to get past your 12 year old talking points.

That's their job to figure out.. if forcing change was easy, then no one would have to force it..

This is what I don't understand about people rioting. You are upset, I get that - but looting a local store isn't going to change anything or even affecting the people are you are angry at. All it's going to do is affect local citizens - your neighbors. Local stores go out of business because of this, leaving their friends and neighbors without jobs.

How does that help?

Of course, that doesn't begin to count the real damage - the extra costs to the city. My hometown here has a population of fifty thousand people and our police department has a budget of five million dollars. Now imagine having additional costs for two million dollars a month to handle rioting and fires. Fucking insane.

That's the thing. They know it doesn't help and most don't even care about what they're rioting about. It's just a free ticket to wreck and steal some shit. Free toilet paper you say? I'm in!

Wait a fucking minute!!!

Are you guys telling me that Al Sharpton and the "black lives matter" group didn't stick around in Ferguson to deal with the aftermath and help people? I'm fucking shocked.

Surely brassmonkey and blackmonsters are there right now making the world a better place for all the innocent, law abiding and victimized blacks in the city?
