I grew up where SK lives now, I was chatting with somebody about summer fruit and I told him nobody can beat me when it comes to eating massive quantities of summer fruit, this is what I grew up in all around, a fruit and vegetable lovers paradise. Fuck the vegetables, other than the sweet corn.

what's that, $8.5 for a pound, kilo?...

Yep, we're spoiled in Niagara for the good juicy fruits. Cherries, peaches and nectarines are all really big this year - it's been a good season.

The best fruit in the region comes from the Mennonites who rightfully consider pesticides evil.

Where are the berries?

One thing I like about markets in the country is all of the bizarre berries you come across. My grandma used to make various berry tarts and pies from their farm woodland, berries that most people have never heard of. Great stuff.

Not a berry - but my grandma often made rhubarb pie. Ugh. Just the thought of it makes my taste buds run screaming the other way.

I got fed those same disgusting pies and always from grandmothers, how odd. Rhubarb tastes like shit.

dunno but there are all kinds of berries grown there - currants, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries - they aren't the huge size of the California grown ones, but are much sweeter and tastier. whatever breeding/genetic manipulation is going on in big fruit farming it's producing huge beautiful looking fruit but the taste is lacking. strawberries now come as big as plums, never saw them until maybe the last 25 years.

the season is very short, cherries come and go in a few weeks.

Niagara is now a big wine making area, there were vineyards when i was a kid but nothing like there is now - it's a pretty well respected wine area internationally.

Man I love rhubarb. Don't see it too often, so whenever I come across it on a menu I will grab it. Only dessert I will usually order.

Good question.

Fans of rhubarb, who knew. We don't get many berries here Sly.

Yummy! I love fresh fruits and veggies. I hit all the local fresh markets on saturdays and stock up on stuff to can.
