For affiliates and small programs what are the best tools against DDOS attacks, Botnets?

Well I meant more for home based computing and not servers....but...some rather common sense advice would be to have an over provisioning of your bandwith so it can handle the initial burst on it....that will give your server techs the ability to get on it and start scrubbing without it being overwhelmed at 100% when they get to it.

Another thing you can do is actually pick up the phone and call your host and ask them exactly what kind of plan they have in place for DDOS attacks. What the average time is on past attacks it took them to resolve. Expected downtimes from a generalized attack.. That way you don't have to completely panic the first time it happens. Find out exactly what the query load is for your stuff.

Sorry I don't have more detailed answers. I'm not a network admin or tech. Thats a whole other area of the cookie...

Thanks for the answers. All good advice. We are using cloud services and expanding server capabilities.

Are there any good tools for tuning Microsoft OS? Say Windows 7. Back in the day they used to offer a tool that would fix corrupt files, clean registry, etc.
We use CCleaner now. Anything better?

AdultKing 08-28-2015 08:15 PM

Why is a Mac running OS X better than a Windows PC ? Other than the obvious.

HugeWood 08-28-2015 08:29 PM

I understand that by pushing the buttons on this thing in a specific order, I can get checks in the mail, even become a billionaire. Can you help me with that?

Ccleaner is a general tool I use just to clean stuff up as well. I wouldn't fool with registery cleaners tho unless you know what you are doing. Those aren't really 100% accurate and if you just blindly delete everything in the box that comes up....you'll more than likely fuck up your system.

To Fix Windows Update issues here is a very nice step by step guide in order of how to run them.

https://www.winhelp.us/reinstall-windows-update.html

To fix Windows issues with drivers...etc..corrupt files...run the System File Checker

1.) type CMD in the start button area search
2.) right click and run as admin
3.) type sfc /scannow

That will go through and verify the integrity of the windows files against its dlcache folder

To remove peksy startup items and residuals that you can't find in the msconfig utility, use Autoruns to remove them.

Take your finger. Select the button you want to push. Press down gently, then release in an upward motion. Rinse and repeat if necessary.

Because it gives you something to relate to and chat about why you are waiting in line at Starbucks with the other peoples whose batteries went to shit on their Iphones when they updated OsX.

You can say something like. Yeah, I updated to that OS X # too on my mac and now my Itunes wont play my Beck albums anymore. The weird part is that my Mumfurd & Sons stuff still plays perfect.

You can't go wrong with a good old fashioned Windows disk cleanup either after you run cc..

I can't tell my laptop from my etch-a-sketch. I shake them both to reboot.

Any help would be appreciated. :)

Select one of the items. Hit it with a hammer. If you cry like Nancy Kerrigan, that's your laptop. Good news, you still have the etch a sketch to rub your junk on.

I want a gaming computer. is it cheaper to buy the parts and make it, or just go to the store and buy it?
I cant make it myself and would have to pay a guy to do it.

SBJ 08-28-2015 11:37 PM

For my main PC I have a

AMD K6-2 300mhz processor
128mb Ram
30gb hard drive
Windows 98

What would you upgrade first to get the most bang for my buck?

Thanks in advance oh wise one :thumbsup

Go to craiglists for your city and either search for gaming computer or goto the sys page.

https://chicago.craigslist.org/searc...e&query=gaming

Guys are there selling their rigs all the time. They are never satisfied with what they have and always ending up building a new one after about a year. They are always looking to dump a rig that they put that kind of money into and recover a bit of it and are willing to part with it cheaper than it would cost you to build one yourself or buy one from a store. Not everybody can afford to buy a $1000-$4000 desktop and they know it..so you have room to barter them down a bit if they know they are going to get something back. Otherwise they end up sitting on a $2000 desktop nobody will buy.

That and sometimes when they pull their ass off the games for a spell and actually get some pussy, they realize that having $2000 sitting in the living room doesn't pay for that bitch to eat at Olive Garden every night....

sorry that response took too long. I went out and bought a laptop with a i7, 8gigs of ram, windows 8.1, and 1TB hard drive while I was waiting. This seems a little faster :2 cents:

:1orglaugh Actually those specs were close to my 1st pc but it was a K-2 450mhz. I take that back my 1st pc was a IBM PC jr in 1984 but I was never online with that one.

sure you send me 16 gigs and i'll put it in. I hate they always give you two 4 gigs of ram so you have to replace all ram to increase it. It's fine for what I do though.
