Talk about a weird story. "The proprietors of the Auschwitz concentration camp ... "

What a weird story ... "Proprietors of Auschwitz" and the fact no-one would see overhead misters and not comment.

"The proprietors of the Auschwitz concentration camp have found themselves in hot water after installing showers in the former Nazi extermination camp in a bid to “cool down” visitors to the onetime slaughterhouse, which is now a museum commemorating the Holocaust.

"Mist showers have reportedly been installed at the death camp’s entrance to help tourists battle the high summer temperatures in Poland, where Auschwitz is located.

"However, for some Jewish visitors to the museum, the showers have evoked harsh memories of the execution of more than 1.1 million at the death camp, many of whom were murdered by being marched into showers filled with poison gas."

I've always been a little puzzled as to why they didn't bulldoze those camps years ago, instead of making them tourist attractions. It always struck me as somewhat morbid and ghoulish to keep them.

Okay, I get it about the 'never forget' idea.

But...at the same time - locally we had the Paul Bernardo/Karla Homolka rapes and murders and the city wasted no time demolishing their house of horrors (and subsequently rebuilding an entirely new house on the property). Local citizens were relieved the place had been torn down - not wanting to be reminded of the crimes that took place within.

But definitely a strange story about installing 'cooling showers' at the entrance. Like, nobody thought this was not the best idea from the beginning?

They need to be a part of history - we need to be reminded how evil mankind can be.

It was almost 40c here for weeks on end... All the grass here is dead, everything is yellow like in Greece. Hot as shit, stepping outside was like getting a hair dryer blown in your face. My city was hottest of all - it was like walking on the sun. The heatwave is over, but if the jews that got offended by it want to be offended by it, they can bake in the sun if they prefer - although one could argue that that could put auschwitz in "hot water" again as it might remind them of thier exodus from egypt...

No one is in any "hot water" over it - it's actually not even been mentioned in our news...

You can't really compare the holocaust with a local event that took place and was casued by a few nutters. We're talking about a nation that was activly exterminating a whole "race" of people while at the same time waging a war that spanned the globe.

I think we should continiously be reminded what a bad idea that was.

They should also have some jolly guy welcoming the visitors.

As long as they didn't install them in the actual shower rooms, then I don't see what the fuss is about.
