Chrome plans to end Flash support soon - flash banners will be affected
http://blog.crakrevenue.com/wp-conte...5x300_GIFa.gif Turn FLASH Ads into a GIF, EASILY! Google Chrome is the world?s most popular web browser?and now they're releasing a major update that essentially says SAYONARA to the Flash support we once knew. Yep, you read that right ? Chrome is ending Flash support that will affect marketers. And it?s going to affect you and I, and publishers and affiliates everywhere?unless of course, we?re proactive about it. What will happen to your Flash ads: Flash content (such as flash banners) that is not central to a page will essentially pause, causing the flash creative to no longer display as intended for people on Chrome?s next release. GIFs are the Solution (and soon, HTML5): Believe it or not, all browsers support animated GIFs. And let?s face it, GIFs aren?t what they used to be; they're no longer dated and tacky. There's been a major resurgence, and for good reason. GIFs are EVERYWHERE because GIFs are not only fun, but effective. While our creative team works diligently towards HTML5 banners?animated GIFs remain the best flash ad alternative... and they?ve never been easier to make. http://i.imgur.com/T5HPX4K.png |

I read that a couple of days ago ...
Flash cam's ''shelf date'' will expire sooner rather than later too :2 cents: Animated .gif is a crude adaption a HTML5 <video> banner https://addroid.com/examples#nespresso tested in chrome and firefox only |

Thanks you Eric, nice job.

Steve Jobs always hated flash and was right once again.
|
Finally, now more programs need to take this lead.
Get rid of Flash, adopts HTML5 pronto. |
Thanks everyone, for the feedback and otherwise. My pleasure!
This update has the potential to sting a bit, but hey, as they say... things could always be worse. We'll adapt :) |
Fuck Steve Jobs. Love his iphones but I hate that my iphone can't use flash all because of "his vision".

Does this include embeddable videos as well?

Anyone who thinks any differently doesn't know shit about the advertising industry and enjoys downloading ads that are 2-3 times larger that look 2-3 times worse. It is ok of course to hate on flash because you hate ads. Most people hate it because of this reason. On a purely tech level, it's just really dumb they didn't wait another couple of years and get HTML5 up to scratch.. have it work properly across multiple browsers and devices and use even basic animation techniques missing from flash. What else would I expect from someone who tried to cure his cancer with a change in diet. Darwin awards candidate. |

Regarding flash video embeds, if Chrome feels it IS central to the page and something you wanted to see, it may have a shot at continuing to play normally, but it's hard to say how this will play out long term with the changing attitudes. (however, if this flash content wasn't supported, you should still have an option to manually enable it.) Quote:
