To take down the so-called Islamic State in Syria, the influential former head of the CIA wants to co-opt jihadists from America?s arch foe.

Members of al Qaeda?s branch in Syria have a surprising advocate in the corridors of American power: retired Army general and former CIA Director David Petraeus.

The former commander of U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan has been quietly urging U.S. officials to consider using so-called moderate members of al Qaeda?s Nusra Front to fight ISIS in Syria, four sources familiar with the conversations, including one person who spoke to Petraeus directly, told The Daily Beast.

The heart of the idea stems from Petraeus?s experience in Iraq in 2007, when as part of a broader strategy to defeat an Islamist insurgency the U.S. persuaded Sunni militias to stop fighting with al Qaeda and to work with the American military.

The tactic worked, at least temporarily. But al Qaeda in Iraq was later reborn as ISIS, and has become the sworn enemy of its parent organization. Now, Petraeus is returning to his old play, advocating a strategy of co-opting rank-and-file members of al Nusra, particularly those who don?t necessarily share all of core al Qaeda?s Islamist philosophy.

That is the goddamn stupidest idea ever. Wasn't this how these ass clowns got trained to pull off 9/11. Back in the 80s, to fight the Russians, the CIA trained operatives who later became Al-Qaeda. And this stupid ass clown Petraeus wants to do it all over again so down the road, these fuckers can backstab us again and kill more americans. Good grief, the stupidity of him knows no bounds.

Oh for fucks sake. Dammit. Does this administration have a single shred of intelligence. Your support of the Shah in Iran led to the Iran we know today. You fund and arm Bin Laden to fight Soviets in Afghanistan in the 80's while at the same time arming and training Saddam Hussein in a decade long war with Iran. Gone to war with an ideology not an army and more recently funding and arming the rebels in Syria who have become now become ISIS. Notice a pattern.When you dont have a damn clue what your doing, dont do ANYTHING.

Why do you think all the things you wrote werent intended? All these wars on the Middle East are absolutely not dangerous to the US itself, bar a few events such as 9/11, which in the end is again proven to be useful for the ruling class to adopt such laws as "Partiot Act" and strip the people off their rights.
It's the well-thought strategy of controlled chaos. Works well against both potentially perspective unfriendly regimes on the ME, and slightly weaken Europe with the refuges from the wars Erope didn't start.
