Great Aussie song.

AdultKing 09-05-2015 10:41 AM

Jimmy Barnes & Cold Chisel.

AdultKing 09-05-2015 10:43 AM

The Angels and Doc Neeson (RIP)

Saw the Angels live at Billboard in Melbourne in 1983, fucking awesome

AdultKing 09-05-2015 10:50 AM

Russell Morris & The Rubes.

AdultKing 09-05-2015 10:54 AM

Midnight Oil

AdultKing 09-05-2015 10:57 AM

INXS before Michael Hutchence hung himself on a doorknob while in a drug induced and drunken state in a Sydney hotel while wanking or whatever he did.

AdultKing 09-05-2015 11:12 AM

Misex

dyna mo 09-05-2015 11:19 AM

technically, this is on their 1981 LP, but it was released as a single in 1980 :winkwink:

1980 Aus music didn't get all the way over here, but by ~1982 it was hitting hard. my 2nd concert i attended was INXS shabooh shobaah tour in ~1982, small club venue, maybe 100 people. hutchence ate a rose on stage, i thought it was pretty cool.

:thumbsup

LRB were great until John Farnham made them gay :upsidedow

AdultKing 09-05-2015 11:42 AM

This hit the charts around December 1980.

AdultKing 09-05-2015 11:47 AM

MEO245 "Lady Love" October 1980 didn't make it into summer though

was followed up by the much better "Other Places"

i'm pretty sure they were my intro to hard rock, my school friend Mark W. got me into them ~1975/76 ish that TNT LP killed it for me. i don't recall too many of my friend's names from 1975 but i remember the one that introduced me to ac/dc. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh anyway. off topic.

AdultKing 09-05-2015 11:54 AM

This was released in the 70's but it made it's way back into the charts during Summer 1980 and again in 1982.

It was filmed down Swanston Street, the main street in Melbourne.

I had the reverse experience, I was into AC/DC and someone introduced me to Kiss - The Destroyer album. I think I wore the fucking track out on Detroit Rock City. :thumbsup

AdultKing 09-05-2015 12:02 PM

We all thought Split Enz were a pack of poofters, but they went on to Crowded House and made big bucks

AdultKing 09-05-2015 12:06 PM

And the Sports, had this track in the charts for most of 1980.

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh you'll prolly think i'm full of shit but i segued from ac/dc to kiss with destroyer. those first 2 AC/DC Lps still resonant with me though, more than anything they've done since, even though they've always been huge and cranking out killer rock. prolly more than any kiss song too even.

it's always struck me as an interesting transition, the no frills ac/dc compared to the over the top kiss.

AdultKing 09-05-2015 12:09 PM

Darryl Cotton was also a bit of a poof, but you had to pretend you liked him to get in with the chicks.

Kiss were fucking huge here. The MCG was the venue for their concert here when I was 13. When my parents expire all the photos of me going to that concert are going in the fire.

This was 1980

Norman Gunston released a funny track picking on the people going to that concert in 1980

AdultKing 09-05-2015 12:22 PM

She came from London but became our own here

AdultKing 09-05-2015 12:32 PM

This band had to change their name and became pretty big.

AdultKing 09-05-2015 12:36 PM

Dugites 1980. The first Aussie band to own a Fairlight CMI (which for music nerds was the ultimate sampling synth of the 80s)

AdultKing 09-05-2015 12:39 PM

Melbourne got hit by new wave big time toward the end of 1980

AdultKing 09-05-2015 12:44 PM

Sumer of 1980/81 Australian Crawl owned the airwaves

AdultKing 09-05-2015 12:55 PM

Then Mental as Anything

AdultKing 09-05-2015 12:58 PM

My mates considered this lot poofters also, but had to pretend to like em for the girls.

Air Supply were the biggest grossing Aussie band in the early 80s - go figure

AdultKing 09-05-2015 01:01 PM

Jo Jo Zep second time this year.

The Porn Nerd 09-05-2015 01:04 PM

Why does music suck so hard these days?

No one can sing, no one has a distinctive voice, no one can play their instruments. WTF?

drclockwork 09-05-2015 01:08 PM

35 years ago, on the 23rd of this month (Sept.) ..... I was born.

AdultKing 09-05-2015 01:09 PM

The twin girls out of this 1980 hit were later in Neighbours

AdultKing 09-05-2015 01:12 PM

Dunno how this got in the charts in November 1980 but interesting trivia is that I rooted a girl who rooted a guy who used to root the lead singer :) [Apologies to TISM]

AdultKing 09-05-2015 01:15 PM

Flowers became Icehouse and Iva Davies became huge.

AdultKing 09-05-2015 01:19 PM

For the sake of completeness

This was back in the days where Italians were wogs.

AdultKing 09-05-2015 01:21 PM

Late November 1980

AdultKing 09-05-2015 01:23 PM

And this is where Midnight Oil shook their way into the consciousness of generations

AdultKing 09-05-2015 01:30 PM

The last big Aussie [ok NZ if you must but they came here because NZ sucked in the 80s] hit of 1980.

Split Enz became Crowded House the rest was history.

They just don't make classics like this any more, it's all that manufactured X Factor crap in the charts now, and Justin "I suck" Bieber.

AdultKing 09-05-2015 01:40 PM
