Ya... the author of the Forbes article is a well known climate denier and loony: James Taylor misinterprets study by 180 degrees | Climate Science Watch and this just represents a small part of his oeuvre.

It may behoove all of us to read a wide variety of news so we can try and come to a conclusion about what the real truth is as so much of what passes for news in our wonderful disruptive internet age is slanted or prejudiced or just plain nonsense.

In a way, news on the internet is a kind of Yelp review of facts: the 1's and the 5's can be discounted immediately, and the 2's, 3's and 4's need to be parsed for some hint of the actual truth.

Propaganda films from the 1930′s make their reappearance.

It doesn't take much digging to find out how much crap is in this "article". And even Forbes admits it:

The Latest Climate Change Denial Fact Twisting

Quote:

In actual fact, and in line with predictions made by climate scientists, the latest real NASA data shows that polar sea ice levels are indeed decreasing.

As a whole, the planet has been shedding sea ice at an average annual rate of 13,500 square miles (35,000 sq km) per year since 1979.

“…global sea ice is still decreasing,” said Claire Parkinson, climate scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. “That’s because the decreases in Arctic sea ice far exceed the increases in Antarctic sea ice.”

And even Forbes agrees the Heartland Institute twists the facts

People like Grapesoda will only believe the few studies that fit their own state of denial -- not the general consensus that says we're on a path to disaster. Albeit a slow moving disaster that won't hit us like an earthquake, but it's going to be devastating in the long run.

I don't know what it is about that conservative mindset that makes them want so badly to deny what most scientists (except for a few kooks) believe is coming.

I do Marco, I don't accept man made climate change as anything other than political agenda to get money .... the left always portrays people that disagree with them as looneys... and shouts down anyone with actual facts.. ..

Brian, I wasn't calling you a loony and had no intention of insulting you. AFAIK, you were completely unaware of the author's reputation and that he'd cherry-picked his data.

The framing of the whole issue was wrong. It pits one group of people against another. All they do is fight and argue about who was wrong and who is right. No progress will be made like this.

Shift the framing to reducing pollution. Something nobody argues against. Progress will be made and the earth will be healthier, and more beautiful, meanwhile.

Until then, it will just be a bunch of people issuing scientific papers and arguing on the Internet as to whether or not man can change global climate. Nothing real gets accomplished.

I don't know what man is or isn't doing, but I do know that I take steps every day to reduce my footprint on the world and keep my waste down as much as possible.
