Car guys, no talk of Volkswagen scandal?

I'm a little surprised, this appears to be a monster.

Facing up to $18 billion in EPA fines alone. European governments launching their own investigations. Huge stock drop, billions lost.

VW Says 11 Million Cars Affected Globally as Scandal Widens

stoka 09-22-2015 01:16 PM

it's all bikers here, dude :D

2MuchMark 09-22-2015 01:24 PM

It's pretty bad. And the CEO gave a shitty apology. "The company is sorry". Like, wtf... some ONE ordered the the special mode setting, and at least a few programmers made it happen... they should all apologize, all be fired, and VW ordered to pay the $14 Billion dollar fine or whatever it was. Congrats to the EPA for catching this scam.

CurrentlySober 09-22-2015 01:26 PM

i cant afford a VW anyway...

crockett 09-22-2015 01:27 PM

I wonder if they are just the tip of the iceberg and have other manufacturers being doing it as well.

Yup then they'll have to pay for recalls and maybe class action lawsuits - we bought a VW diesel because we were told it was a green car....

No wonder the share price dropped by 30%. I still think that they'll shrug it off.

pornmasta 09-22-2015 02:11 PM

btw, someone asked me if it's the good moment to buy a car (drop of the price).
What's your opinion ?

Sure. They are still pretty good cars and great on fuel, just not so good for smog / pollution.

The Porn Nerd 09-22-2015 03:03 PM

Hitler would be so proud.

Choopa Phil 09-22-2015 03:05 PM

I cant imagine what thats going to do to the resale value of those cars. VW's never really did anything for me anyway so no loss there!

Rochard 09-22-2015 04:45 PM

Amazing. They had a device installed in certain cars that cheated on emissions tests?

And got caught? Fucking funny.

the only scam is pollution limits with no science to back them up. VW did nothing wrong. They should pay nobody anything, because nobody got harmed, not even a fish. & liberals should apologize for inconveniencing them with unnecessary regulations that cause customers to have sluggish cars, so mark prince can feel like he's helping the environment. kudos to german engineering.

No extra device, just the car software detecting emission checking and adjusting the engine settings causing that emissions were temporarily lower.

its federal nonsense. non-violent civil disobedience of laws that restrain rights is a cherished tool towards freedom. or are you opposed to martin luther king?

Difference is MLK was willing to go to jail for violating laws. Not so much for VW's CEO...not to mention that a multinational corporation violating air polution laws has nothing to do with civil rights.

First you made some sort of bizarre analogy between VW's law breaking and MLK/civil rights...

When the VW CEO agrees to serve jail time like MLK...and when violating air pollution laws somehow benefit individual civil rights, then maybe you would have a point.

TDI diesels get put into a lot of stuff. They are becoming popular engine swaps for the Jeep guys as well as Toyotas that had the old 22R's even. They are pretty much a perfect diesel swap for a lot of 4x4s and cars as well.

forget jail time. MLK paid with his life. & suggestions are being made about bankrupting volkswagen. for what? for giving their drivers a civil right of a better performing car thats being needlessly restricted by a pollution law thats based on nothing but the liberal agenda. Liberals want to kill volkswagen for violating the liberal agenda.

rather than tearing my point down, you should try to defend yours...the NOx level. what specific got harmed by VWs exhaust? name 1 thing got harmed, other than liberals dumb pollution setting.

:helpme

Apparently this fraud covers all their diesel engine cars from 2015 back to 2009. I don't think Lambo or Porsche sells a consumer product using that diesel engine...in the US at least (I could be wrong)...but Audi sure does.

I think Porsche and Lambo name could easily survive this scandal (under a new owner perhaps) given their reputation and if none of their cars actually had the diesel engine in question.

"A civil right is an enforceable right or privilege, which if interfered with by another gives rise to an action for injury. Examples of civil rights are freedom of speech, press, and assembly; the right to vote; freedom from involuntary servitude; and the right to equality in public places"

https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/civil_rights

Can you provide a cite...any cite...that says an example of a civil right is the ability to own a "better performing car" absent any government air pollution regulations??

vw had also just moved into the #1 carmaker on the planet this year. they've been on that mission for quite awhile now, thus buying all those marks. and a few more i think.

I never claimed anyone was directly harmed. You were the one that claimed driving a "better performing car" absent government regulation is a civil right. Care to provide some cites for your assertion? I mean if you did not just pull that out of your ass, then I am sure there are some like minded individuals somewhere that share your ideas...right?

i need a website to verify my civil right to a better performing car? i actually have to explain that to you?

is it somehow in the public interest to restrict my right to a better performing car? I have already claimed that the law is based not on any science. just the liberal agenda.

otherwise, start naming what got harmed by VW's NOx emission.

Yeah...Audi may have a diesel. I don't think here in the U.S. though.

I was strictly speaking if it effecting the other brands, but like you said...they word survive under some other umbrella as well.

Yes, because I have never heard anyone say such a thing is a civil right. So if what you are saying is true, then it should be very easy for you to cite some source to back up your assertion. That's if you did not just pull it out of your ass.

Yes it is in the public interest, because that "liberal agenda" was in-acted by politicians who the public voted for. if you do not like what the politicians in-acted, then vote in different politicians. Or take it up in the court system. if you lose on both grounds, then tough shit for you.

Which is still a shitload. :disgust

you are trying to interject a point i never made. i simply said i have a right to a better performing car. I never said that "absent government regulations" please recheck my writing you will see you made that part up yourself.

& i vote republican everytime. but here in NY, its pretty much a wasted vote. No worries. when trump gets the white house, he will waive this nonsense away. This is the type of stuff donald says holds america back, & he's right. This is a waste of volkswagens time.

otherwise, start defending how the EPA NOx level directly effects humanity. or are you gonna start spilling the whole climate change crap.
