Report: Unlicensed pilot flew plane that crashed, killing 5
SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) ? An unlicensed pilot was flying a small homebuilt plane that crashed last week in rural south Georgia, killing all five people on board, after a witness saw the aircraft weaving up-and-down close to the treetops, federal investigators said in a preliminary report.
The report filed Tuesday by the National Transportation Safety Board does not identify a probable cause of the Sept. 16 crash near Alma, about 100 miles southwest of Savannah. It said an examination of the plane's engine and accessory parts showed no evidence of mechanical defects that may have contributed to the crash. The NTSB identified the pilot as Waylon Boatright, a farmer who owned the four-seat RV-10 aircraft. He filed no flight plan before the plane took off from the small Bacon County airport about 6 miles from where he crashed at about 3:40 a.m. Report: Unlicensed pilot flew plane that crashed, killing 5 - Yahoo News |
He was just a freedom loving American that refused to comply with Obama's socialist government regulations.

Thanks for update, Mr. Undertaker.

So ... an unlicensed pilot, flying a 4 seat plane, he built himself, crashed and killed the 5 people aboard.
What could have gone wrong? . |

I think someone at the National Transportation Safety Board can write this one up from his desk.

Let's see, unlicensed pilot, 5 people in a homemade plane that seats 4, and the crash happened around 3:40 am. Yup, that's a real mystery.
Edit: NVM, I see Sly and L-Pink have it covered. |

I'm baffled as to what was going through any of their minds. |
Probably had more to do with with an aft-CG considering that there were 5 people on board. Makes the plane tail heavy and can become uncontrollable for even the best pilot. You'd be surprised how many pilots fly unlicensed.
Three people sitting in the back seat of an RV10 would definitely lead toward an aft-CG, especially if they had luggage in the plane as well. |
