Nudes Are Old News at Playboy
Last month, Cory Jones, a top editor at Playboy, went to see its founder Hugh Hefner at the Playboy Mansion.
In a wood-paneled dining room, with Picasso and de Kooning prints on the walls, Mr. Jones nervously presented a radical suggestion: the magazine, a leader of the revolution that helped take sex in America from furtive to ubiquitous, should stop publishing images of naked women. Mr. Hefner, now 89, but still listed as editor in chief, agreed. As part of a redesign that will be unveiled next March, the print edition of Playboy will still feature women in provocative poses. But they will no longer be fully nude. Its executives admit that Playboy has been overtaken by the changes it pioneered. “That battle has been fought and won,” said Scott Flanders, the company’s chief executive. “You’re now one click away from every sex act imaginable for free. And so it’s just passé at this juncture.” SOURCE: NY TIMES |
That is pretty huge - I wonder if they will take it online?..
what? checks calendar... nope not april 1st. A non nude playboy? :error
they should still have the centerfold nude celebs. very sad day for porn everywhere in my opinion though. playboy's nudes were the first vision of a naked female for millions.
Does anyone know for how long Mindgeek has a license agreement for playboyplus and playboytv?
Sounds pretty interesting.

biggest wtf for today :)

interesting article. thanks for sharing. Playboy is mainly mainstream for a while now. Not very surprising they remove ffull nudity then. I'm curious to see what happen next though :)
They will be able to make more money through social networks now.
So what?
Its only the magazine
this is not big news. if you ran the magazine you have two options 1. go hardcore 2. go non nude now they can sell in more places being non nude the question is why did they not do this years ago today the lads mag sales are down and some mags have gone bust so it may be too late for a change |
opposed to most here I am actually a subscriber of the german version - for like 20 years
which i will cancel if that happens |
As long as it is owned by manwin, no damage done here.
They didn't change with the times - the internet overtook them.
Maybe they should have hired Brandon Ackerman - The Porn King!!! |
I wouldn't mind that ...
I think they're desperate to change something, but it's a bad move which will further decrease sales.
So it's just a new type Maxim
but classier and costs more. |
Buy why? It's not like they're having sex in front of the camera...
Anyhow, it made me laugh when I read this Mr. Hefner, now 89, but still listed as editor in chief, agreed. I thought it is going to say Mr. Hefner, now 89, but still alive... God bless him and his magazine. :D |
I can't fap to this
It said on the TV that when the playboy website went non nude, its hits increased a lot.

I would say they should go more explicit instead of going non-nude.
On Manwin's Playboy Plus, content with a lot of pussy shots gets 2-3x more likes than Playmate content from the magazine. They should also fire half of those shooting for the magazine, some picture sets are simply laughable. |
I haven't kept up with Playboy in the last decade or so, but this makes me pretty sad.
I feel like we can have an official funeral for my adolescence now. |
The only reason I've picked up a Playboy since I was 18 was for the nude celebs. If they're ditching nudity, I guess nude celebs are gone, too.
I'll just have to wait for their phones to get hacked. |
i can see how it can be used to drive traffic to the site. teaser photos in the magazine and full nude of that set on the site
but playboy needs to get back to doing what they do best, next door natural girls in fantastic settings. they lost sight of that when internet competition hit them hard. instead of continuing doing what they did, they tried to copy the sites copying them. and tattooed fake titty sluts are not what Playboy is about. |
that's what happen when you turned 89.

Lulz. |
I personally know the study - internally - behind the action. It is more mental than anything on the viewer side. The study was based on this:
1. Why does Victoria Secret get viewers more excited that nude women? It really is interesting. I personally have been testing the same idea out with Soft Core porn. It works with developing traffic. Big time. I would suggest you A B test this for yourselfs. 1. Show Model in full dress 2. Show Model in states of semi dress (night attire) 3. Work to full on nudity in content purchase. |
German Playboy (basically a franchise) has announced that they will continue with nudity as usual...
Stooopid
What will happen to Playboy TV?
Some of the Instagram pics I see are way hotter than that overproduced shit in Playboy.
it looks like a media strategy to make more people curious about the new playboy.
will be interesting to see what they do
Memories of tanlines and airbrushed girlies.
An era gone by. |
it's pretty obvious. now that the majority of the population literally believe that the internet is facebook / social media if you don't exist on those platforms you might as well not be on the internet at all.

that is a smart move! They are distiguishing themselves

It would add some of the mystery back into it. |
wow ....never knew this until now.
Didn't Penthouse make the same move years ago and have it backfire miserably?
Get Zishy Zach in at Playboy!
They are eliminating nude cover pics
Its all such bullshit. They were in decline as the internet started... they missed the boat there and it took them years to even get online and even then, during those early years they were bankrupt and bleeding and didn't do anything right.
They've been behind the curve for a very very long time now - not because "porn is free" but because they are inept and mismanaged. Radical change and getting away from everything they are and turning such a brand upside down and inside is a sign of continued ineptitude and panic and inexperience,....it's not a "vision for the future". |

Makers Mark announces they are going to be changing their whiskey making it basically a slighting watered down version. They get tons of free publicity. There is a backlash and customers demand the whiskey stays the same. The company wins. Playboy announces..... |
