Anyone using Kodi.tv ?

I consider pulling the cable TV plug almost every day now. One of the services I keep hearing about it Kodi.tv. Anyone using them?

pr0phet 10-22-2015 08:21 AM

Get Genesis and Sportsdevil. The end.

Choopa Phil 10-22-2015 08:23 AM

Yes sir! I've been using Kodi installed on my Amazon fire TV for the past 2 years and haven't looked back!

1 Channel, Genesis, and Phoenix are all you need for any show/netflix series.

Marialovesporn 10-22-2015 08:26 AM

Kodi is awesome. Give it a try ;-)

Seriously considering this too... Any input is welcome, Since me and Chris are in Canada, can it be an issue ?

Shouldn't be any issues at all. Takes about 20 minutes to get the amazon fire tv all setup. Youtube it and you'll be ready to rock in no time. If you're going to use the Amazon fire...make sure you get the box, not the stick. The box has a better processor and is much faster.

BlackCrayon 10-22-2015 08:34 AM

was thinking of getting one of these

Matricom G-Box Q Quad/Octo Core XBMC/Kodi Android TV Box: Amazon.ca: Electronics

though i guess you could just use kodi on a laptop and connect it to your tv.

Evil Chris 10-22-2015 08:35 AM

What about live television? Sports? NHL, NFL, MLB?

There are repositories for live tv and sports. These are downloaded onto your box and called "add-ons"

:thumbsup:thumbsup

My brother actually has an add on that allows him to get NHL pass with all the different camera angles and stuff. It's all open source so if you look hard enough you can find one that works.

I use kodi, get al my favorite show live sports and news. Just make sure you have a good connection and say bye bye to that cable bill.

Oracle Porn 10-22-2015 09:58 AM

look at all these people supporting piracy all out in public
if you watch live sports enjoy the bullshit that comes with kodi.

edit: sad times when $50 monthly savings for adult webmasters is important

this sounds interesting. I've heard of it before but never cared to look much...

how/where do you get all these add on apps?

Evil Chris 10-22-2015 04:43 PM

What kind of box is required for this? A laptop? PC?
Is there a specific device necessary?

get the mini PC called Raspberry Pi from amazon or from their site : https://www.raspberrypi.org/ , it costs less then $40

then you install OpenElec, OpenElec comes with Kodi, it is very easy to install and you can connect your raspberry to any TV

American Psycho 10-23-2015 04:16 AM

In the Kodi application you go under the video section, then "add-ons" here you type in URL for app repositories. I highly suggest watching a youtube video on how to install/setup kodi. Any questions you have about it will be cleared up pretty quickly. Its much easier to see it vs. explain it.

candyflip 10-23-2015 07:14 AM

It used to be XBMC which is why the folks who've never heard of it haven't heard of it. They just changed the name.

Evil Chris 10-23-2015 07:17 AM

Just for information sake, here's what's listed as hardware platforms for Kodi

Devices - Kodi

There are likely more. I was hoping to see PS3/4 on that list.

I would get the PI2 since it has quad core. Same price I think. I have this running on 2 different PI's at home and they are awesome.

Any idea of when they will start supporting 4K? I still vote for amazon fire tv box...quad core, 2GB ram, 4k support, integrated remote, and no need to buy a case...unlike the PI

EddyTheDog 10-23-2015 07:42 AM

I use the most fucked up laptop you will ever see - Works like a charm - Everyone has one somewhere - As long as can connect to your TV you are fine...

Check out: OpenELEC Mediacenter - OpenELEC Forum - H265 / HEVC support ??? (1/1)

They say it can handle some, but if you are looking for performance, then no.
