The biggest downside to the EU is migration and the rules the EU attaches to it.

A 2010 estimate shows that 4.76 million (7.7 per cent) were born outside the EU and 2.24 million (3.6 per cent) were born in another EU member state.

If they were all or their parents were on the average or above wage. The country wouldn't have a problem.
In 2011 the foreign born population was 11.9%. Now it's far higher, add children born and it's even higher.

In the United Kingdom, the average household net-adjusted disposable income per capita is $27,029 a year, more than the OECD average of $25,908 a year. But there is a considerable gap between the richest and poorest ? the top 20% of the population earn nearly six times as much as the bottom 20%.
|
The top 20% contribute 10 times more to the economy than the bottom 20%
Get rid of that bottom 20%, by not allowing anyone into the country who will need any Government support, apart from essential workers. Sending those home who can't reach that level, unless proven political refugees. And do away with child benefits after the first child, born a year after changing the law.
Tough task after so many years doing the opposite.
Or keep going down the same route and see the essential earn more and more and the least essential less and less.
