Bernie Sanders is my guy!
Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders announced his support Wednesday for removing marijuana from a list of the most dangerous drugs outlawed by the federal government ? a move that would free states to legalize it without impediments from Washington.

Pot is not my deciding issue. That said, it's use and abuse is no worse than alcohol.
berniesanders.com -- Issues -- War and Peace This makes some sense but can be interpreted somewhat Pollyanna also. Bernie, in spite of his age, is a choice to be considered. If he would moderate his minimum wage views and become more realistic in light of the expense of funding his other platforms... My taxes will go up if he were elected. In itself: I really don't mind if there can be some financial benefit for the 80% that work to make a living -- they spend money to make my customers money :2 cents: |
I cant vote for someone that thinks Phish is a good band.

It's funny Republicans are so against weed being legal. You know...with them being all big on personal freedom and liberty, and all of that.

I can think of quite a few better reasons to support him rather than just pot. The fact he wants to break up these "too big to fail" monopolies is a pretty good starting point.
The the guy is the best candidate running by far..but sadly he won't stand anymore chance than Trump has. |
I like how the average Joe Republican thinks.
Let's say there is a guy making $50,000 a year with two kids and a wife working part time for $12,000. His dumb ass actually listens to somebody like Trump who tells him Bernie is only out to tax him. In reality Bernie would leave this Joe dirt guy alone, or perhaps cost him $500 more a year, but he'd give the guy benefits like actually funding his kid's school by taxing Trump $250,000 more per year. Which sounds like a lot. But is only 1% of Trump's yearly wage. Just like it's only 1% for Joe dirt. But no... Instead of having a better education for his kids he's going to side with Trump. Then, while President, Trump makes union busting job #1. Now Joe dirt makes $32,000 a year doing the same fucking job. Only now he also has to pay his own dental, health and retirement. So who taxed who more? And that my friends is the Rush Limbaugh effect. You tell a lie to people enough times during their morning commutes and they'll vote you into office so you can own them. |

QFT. It's insane how so many people struggling to get ahead have been brainwashed to believe that those who don't have their best interests in mind are the very people they support. |
Keep an eye on Tammy Duckworth. There is a rumor she may become his running mate. That would alleviate my concerns about his foreign policy and other shortcomings - and get him my vote.

nevertheless, it wasn't the only reason i'm putting my massive sway behind Bern. i took a quiz a while back and the results came back that i'm a flaming socialist democrat, or democratic socialist, not totally up on the lingo yet but either way, thank god i'm not a liberal! anyway, based on my views and ideals, Bernie Sanders best represents me. I've been looking at him closer when this news just came out last nite/this morning. |

You're in good company - certainly he'll win almost half of the white males who identify as liberal and view issues such as legalization of mj as very important.

he has to get the nomination to be able to pick Ms. Duckworth. Candidates pick VPs after they are the party's nominee.

You strike me as the type of guy who remembers everything so I'll reference an old post of mine which one could potentially use for making the argument that I'm not. You did call me a bigot in that thread, so it's also a pre-emptive strike. :thumbsup It was a story about how when I went to a movie screening in NYC with my girlfriend and the people who sat behind us ate bologna sandwiches and Funyuns and that the smell disgusted me. That's all true. I noted my gf's 'white trash roots' which is true. Her parents had a ton of money but her dad didn't start making it until she was in grade school at which point she moved from Mississippi to Dallas. But most of her extended family was spread out across the South and did fit the white trash stereotype. She even has a cousin who is pretty famous actress that many consider to be white-trash. :1orglaugh But even though I referenced her 'white-trash roots', I was with her. I had met a lot of her family, they were all really nice, and there was only one time I can recall ever having thought of their 'white trashness'. We had gotten engaged and were starting to plan for the wedding. Even though I wanted it to be in NYC, I agreed to do it in Dallas so everyone from her extended family could afford to go but insisted that it be black-tie because I didn't want them to fuck up the aesthetic of my wedding with their ugly clothes. I also said that the people who were eating the nasty shit were white-trash but actually never saw them and could have cared less as to their socioeconomic status. Even though Funyuns and bologna are stereotypical white trash food, they smell just as gross no matter who is eating them. The only reason I mentioned my gf's white trash roots and embellished the white trashness of the people behind us was to prove a point to the anti-liberals in the thread (a couple of whom fit the white trash stereotype) that there are people out there who view them much in the same way they view black people. I didn't respond to you when you called me a bigot because I was acting like a bigot and I knew that you were right. But I was only doing it for anti-bigot purposes. But maybe it came from somewhere. So I'm maybe a bit snobby but still pretty tolerant. What do you think? Am I tolerant or not? And what does it have to do with whether or not I'm liberal? Enough about me. What about you? We grew up not to far from each other. You were born in Cali but grew up in Pasadena. I was born in SF and lived in the East Bay before moving to Houston. I lived in Tanglewood and went to a private hs inside the loop. I know that Pasadena is considered to be very conservative. You went to Cal, I went to UT. Both are good schools. It's not easy to get into Cal if you live out of state. I applied but didn't get in yet still managed to get a full ride to UT. You know that in Texas, UT is considered to be a liberal school. Especially when compared with aTm. Cal is considered by many to be the most liberal school in the country. I may be totally wrong about this but, as politically minded and observant as you appear to be, I imagine that you knew that before you went there and also probably viewed yourself as being more liberal than the people you grew up with. And it's easy to see how a very intelligent open-minded kid from Pasadena, TX could go to a school like Cal with a bunch of Chomsky-loving liberals, be judged, conflate their elitism with liberalism, and become anti-liberal. But that hasn't been my experience with liberals. Not in the slightest. And even though the Democrats of today are much more liberal than Lloyd Bentsen and Ann Richards, I think we tend to be much more tolerant than the conservatives of today. |
Quote:
but liberalism today isn't about accepting people as they are, it's about changing them into was liberals think they need to be in order to fit into the liberal framework. you don't see liberals working with others, you see them pointing out the differences. not saying conservatives do not do the same, they do, but nevertheless. a great example is religion. the liberal movement has zero tolerance for religion/people of faith. liberals see things in very black or white terms.. liberals also have a very simple view of the world around them, including thinking that changing human behavior is a viable option, such as expecting people to care about others like they care about family. liberals always seem to need to tell me what i need to do while they feel the only thing they need to do is to tell me what i need to do. but the worst thing about liberals is how they think they are so much better than everyone else. simply, liberals suffer from cognitive dissonance. perhaps you are more socialist democrat than liberal? |

When I was in school (94-98), there was the Hopwood v. Texas decision which was a major ruling against affirmative action. It was controversial but I don't remember any protests. I don't know. I'm jut not seeing the same as what you see amongst liberals. Neither in Texas nor in NYC. Sure, there are some who are intolerant, but in my experience conservatives are more likely to be intolerant. I took a detailed quiz to find out which of the candidates my views would be more in line with and here are the results. Kind of surprising that Bernie was so high so I may give him a shot. am not surprised that Rand was the highest Republican because I'm a big fan of Austrian economic theory but only in theory. http://i.imgur.com/Y7eKX7J.png |
