Do you still have Adobe Flash installed? I got rid of it.

A couple of weeks ago I decided that I was sick of the constant updates, so I went all the way and uninstalled it. So far, not much difference...

- Youtube player looks slightly different, but it works fine.

- One affiliate program I use has an animated flash header which no longer shows; no big deal.

- Embedded Youtube vids in GFY threads no longer work, showing the message "A plugin is needed to view this content."

The last one is a bit puzzling, because I can still see embedded Youtube vids on other sites. Maybe GFY needs to update the embedding code? :error

Anyone else also rid themselves of Flash?

I guess this is the problem... GFY embeds the Youtube player as a flash application:

Code:

<embed src="https://youtube.com/v/t7tA3NNKF0Q?autoplay=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"></embed>
Whereas other sites embed an iframe which allows Youtube to choose the correct way to present it:

Code:

<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/m4s_mSAbk4I?enablejsapi=1&amp;" width="640"></iframe>

if you still have flash installed on your computer, you are completely oblivious to security.

Remove java while you're at it.

Yeah, I just recently uninstalled it too. No need for it really.

Gave that the flick 10+ years ago. On the rare occasion I need to use it, say for a remote KVM application, I install it solely for the required duration, then it gets promptly removed.

I remember Java was one of the first programs to start nagging about updates. Now they all do it.
