Program tracking online employees time? VVVVV where are you???

Okay I already have a program where my sales people can log in and out, however that doesn't mean they are REALLY sitting at their computer working.

Anyone know of a program that would log their time available by activity? Like if they were inactive on their computer for 10 minutes or more it would stop logging their time?

If not already I wonder if I could have this built as my own little download for my company. Can't be TOO hard, right?

Where is my FAVORITE programmerrrrrrr?????

There are some programs mentioned on following page but I have not used them personally. One they mentioned is free, ActivTrak.

I think those are more for monitoring what they are doing online.

I'm just more interested in who is logging in and walking away cleaning their house for the rest of the day, or watching whatever TV shows women may watch during the day. If they are idle 5 out of 8 hours then it would be interesting to know.

I checked out the ActivTrak one and according to last few items in FAQ, it also tracks idle time, meaning if user has not used mouse or keyboard for 2 minutes.

Cam those suckers. Wire 'em up so they broadcast direct to you while they are sitting in front of their laptops. Tell them anytime you can't see their fat asses you deduct % from their pay.

Yeehaw!! Keep them piggies in line y'all!!

What a disgusting way to talk about people. That was stupid.

Anything which considers mouse movements or keyboard entry as activity could probably be tricked by a simple program. I guess it's not possible to track by/reward by milestones, actual proof of achievements?

I'm not sure what more there is to say. I was pointing out that anything which monitors basic computer input device activity can be easily fooled, so the only way I can think of to confirm that someone is really doing work - apart from the webcam idea - is for them to submit some sort of periodic proof that they're achieving something. Can their work be broken up into small tasks?

matureisland 11-18-2015 01:19 AM

On the odesk you can work with the same software. You open the app. Log in, and the app tracking your activity. Mouse, keyboard clicks and soo on. And random times between 1-3 minutes make a screenshot of your screen:D

Pay them based on productivity not a salary or hourly.

These are the projects. get them done and its X amount. this is the time limit and its x amount

Right I got what you're saying. I can do that with my sales people, but not really with managers. While they make GREAT money they do get sedentary at times when they have a good team of sales people and don't take initiative to go find NEW ways to make money while they have these great teams.

They figure well, my team is doing great, I can be lackadaisical about work.

It's nice that the team is doing great, but you don't grow an online sales company by being away from the computer and only available by cell phone.

I think I can take you. :winkwink:

I have used ActivTrak before for monitoring remote agents. I found it super helpful and it gave reports on where they were spending their time so I could help improve their efficiency.

It also took screenshots and monitored keywords they entered which was helpful as we had some strict guidelines as to what could and couldn't be said.

Yes - holy big brother batman - but it was very helpful as a training tool and I made the agents aware we were monitoring and would share the graphs, reports, etc so they could improve their effectiveness. ActivTrak is literally invisible so I didn't have to, I approached it from the perspective of training.

I'd start my sessions by asking "do you want a raise?" when they said the inevitable yes, I'd share the reports and data from ActivTrak to illustrate how they could make more. There wasn't a penalty for spending 50% of their time on facebook instead of porn (as long as they were making their minimum), I'd simply say "only spend 25% of your time on facebook and more time on GFY and you'll make more money!" ;)

Most often they were astonished by how much time they spent on unproductive sites and found the process very helpful.

Many ideas are born while away from the computer. Just have the sales manager send you a report every 2 weeks summarizing new ideas and how they either have been or plan to be implemented.

I think that's a really great idea Jimmy Cooper! I'll start there first. =)

Yah I feel like that is just wayyyyy too much an invasion of privacy for them. I would feel uncomfortable even looking at screen shots of their stuff. That would just be weird.

If your biz is growing be happy and cash the checks. Don't waste time trying to squeeze out % more productivity which may or may not be feasible anyway. Grow your business in other ways.

:)

I can appreciate that advice as well. I'm also doing that by doing different work and learning new things myself.
