best Schengen to visit for christmas/new year.. Plans got killed

Thinking of traveling for christmas and new years with gf and bunch of other friends..

Original plan was France for like 5 days, then Netherlands, and then Prague.

Obviously the french plan is gone..

Can you guys recommend what to do/where to go from 23rd December to around 5th january with Schengen visa..

Thanks guys..

Would help if you can suggest things to do there and which countries to visit.

If you don't care too much about the weather, go to Ireland. Dublin is great and full of things to do. Jump on a cheap Ryanair flight if you get bored and go to any number of other EU countries.

Also, I wouldn't be put off travelling to France, yes it was terrible what happened there last week and the ongoing situation is a bit crazy but it is a big country with plenty of great places to visit, you are probably just as safe there as you are in a lot of other places you would go to without thinking twice.

Other places worth considering are Austria, Switzerland and Croatia.

Maybe it's a good time to visit Paris.. I assume plenty of room reservations have been cancelled, the queues at places worth visiting should be smaller etc..

I'm pretty sure Ireland is not Schengen:2 cents:...

I would still go to France if that is what you wanted. It's just as safe as any other major european city.

DamnSexy 11-21-2015 02:20 AM

I think you can still keep your plan to go to paris for christmas, as other said above, safety level will probably be the same that all major cities in europe.

Paris by night on christmas time worths really the ticket ;)

Other way around - Every other major european city is just as UNSAFE as Paris... Absolutely nothing stopping some guy from blowing himself up in a crowded shopping mall here either.

Agreed :thumbsup

As long as The West have the go-ahead for their war, then there's no need for public opinion to be changed with any more 'events', even still, the risk of traveling in a car is far greater

and just think about it, that christmas is christian holiday, so look at countries which are christian, and france is really not one of the most pure :winkwink: same if you want to go to summer holiday and you go to iceland :winkwink: btw santa lives on iceland ... oh :)

That's the same dude, but I see your point :thumbsup and yea, in europe, we have almost no security against this kind of thing. That will change soon.

But I think people should keep in mind, that the risk of dying in traffic is MUCH higher than from a terrorist attack. Last year in France, more than twenty times the amount killed in the Paris attack died from traffic accidents. So if you are afraid of dying, stay off the roads and stop worrying about terrorists.

Even so, the attacks are scary because they are attacks and no accidents.

I wanted to go to Munich but not anymore.. It might be safe but I know I would worry a lot and ruin my own good time :)

Home it is, for me.

You are aware that this is highly irrational behavior right?

It is - However, I'm in central London and I'm not going out unless I really have to. I certainly wont go anywhere touristy or places that will be packed - I need to get my ass back to Spain asap...

The biggest threat in the village is 'Dutch Peter' when he has had a few too many.....

But Spain has been the target for domestic terrorist attacks for years. ETA has done thousands of attacks on civilians in Spain....

Check out Poland. 2 hour drive from Wroclaw to Prague, and there's lots of shit here to see. All sorts of castles, caves, etc. PL and CZ are safer as far as Islamic terrorism.

Manfap 11-22-2015 06:17 AM

Not for a few years, the government finally allowed them a political party and it all stopped... Funny that.
