UK people - what is the deal with the sign language on TV?
This has to be one of the most annoying things i've ever come across, why not have closed captioning.
What is the deal with it? Can you turn it off? |
It's normally only on at night and they just repeat programs from the previous day with the signer...

Cause its the UK, and we are all a bit thick, lots of people cant read, so the signers are put in the corner to look like they are at a rave...

I use sign language plugin for GFY, to help me understand the posts
Ahh...there's an idea, sign language porn :thumbsup |

Serious answer is that its written into the BBCs remit, because the BBC is publicly funded, that it legally has to provide a certain amount of programming that it signed by an official British Sign Language expert.
Like you say, it is annoying (Especially due to the fact that nearly everything has subtitles available these days) So they fill their quota by repeating certain programs with a signer, but usually only in the middle of the night. TL;DR ? They have to do it. |

Its often late night they put the shows on one thing about sign language which i find odd, is its different (i belive) country to country. You would think it would be the same for every country. |

Libby logic - lets care about minority more than about majority. PS: I have nothing against that sign stuff. |
