I watched it again today - and I agree the guy is a hero - but he reacted with blind emotion and never should have gotten out of his car.

It was straight up suicide to confront a hooded assailant in the act of kidnapping.

He should have gone down another block and did a u-turn while calling 911 and watching the thug.

"Lucky to be alive" doesnt quite cover the magnitude of the miracle that he's still breathing.

Possibly the guy who intervened and got shot didn't see the gun when he chose to go and help. Perhaps he thought the assailant was unarmed - granted, bad assumption to make if that's the case.

The New Orleans Police Department Sunday announced that they are looking for 21-year-old Euric Cain as a suspect in the shooting of Tulane Medical School fourth-year student Peter Gold early Friday.

Gold, 25, stopped his car upon seeing a man dragging a woman toward an SUV in the 1000 block of Saint Mary Street, police said. When he tried to help, police said the gunman pointed a weapon at Gold and demanded his money.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and Police Superintendent Michael Harrison announced the identification at a news conference at the department's headquarters Sunday afternoon. They said Cain is wanted on charges of attempted first degree murder, second degree kidnapping and armed robbery.

Harrison also confirmed that the woman had been treated and released for injuries she sustained during the incident, including bruises. The victim was interviewed by detectives on Sunday, Harrison said.
