It's bad but it would be worse if it had been:

(1) A US plane taking down a Russian Plane, or;
(2) A Russian Plane taking down a US plane.

Either of the above options would be quite bad and one would have to consider relocating to a air raid shelter promptly, with tins of Heinz baked beans and long duration Spam. Just shows how easily this whole thing can escalate badly:

Turkey 'downs Russian warplane on Syria border' - BBC News

Looks like the Russian plane was repeatedly warned.

It gets better:

Obviously a lot of info is unknown. However my early thoughts are that Putin keeps pushing and pushing with very little regard for borders or others. He was bound to eventually get punched in the mouth. Oh well.

I received a call from the millitary recruiting office.
possibly it is mobilization over all country

Maybe but Turkey isn't trustworthy. It's playing both sides. Turkey backs the rebels (Turkmen) in Western Syria and has told Russia repeatedly to leave them alone. But Russia is still hitting them because they're anti-Assad. Who found the pilot? Turkmen rebels. Sure looks to me like the pilot landed in Syria.. but it was clearly flying in the border region.

I am not judging who is right or wrong, lying or not. Simply saying that if you keep pushing you open yourself up to this. Boy who cried wolf really. Might be Russia's fault, might not be. Either way Turkey will have public opinion on their side unless it becomes crystal clear they are wrong and that is a risk Russia constantly takes.

Turkey is basking ISIS. This is not a news for everybody. I predict very serious consequences for Turkey. If they lose Russian tourists, their economics will lose a shitload of money. The Egypt has already faced it:

I'm not sure Turkey will have opinion on their side - Even if the jet strayed into Turkey they knew it was a Russian jet, it seems totally OTT to shoot it down...

A military action against Turkey is very possible. Since Turkey is a NATO county, the USA and their allies will be involved too (I'd say they must be involved according to the NATO agreement). In this case I would recommend everybody here to visit their parents/close relatives while it's not too late...

Just FYI guys: according to the new Russian military doctrine, the army is allowed to use nuclear weapon against other countries in preventive cases, even if Russia was not been direly attacked. E.g. the US base in Poland can be potentially used against of Russia in case of conflict with other NATO country like Turkey.

It is not. Thy just initially thought it was shot down from the ground. According to the officials they are still waiting for the details from the military intelligence. If Turkish information will be confirmed, there will be consequences.

How the fuck can we back any rebel group claiming jihad? Madness. The rebels are no different than ISIS. Kurds are the only ones we can trust.

According to that picture the Russian bomber (a red line) was shot down by Turkish jet fighter (a yellow line). Also it shows that Russian bomber has crossed the border of Turkey (a blue line). We can just trust or not trust to this picture.

Actually it doesn't matter if the border has crossed (unwittingly?) the Turkish border or not. The bomber has not attacking the Turkish territory. It was bombing Turkmen rebels in Syria. Turks don't like that and they decided to start shooting down Russian planes (set a no flight zone in that part of Syria). Course Russia won't just swallow it. This gonna end very bad.

Выступает прямо сейчас (смотрю его базар с Абдалой ii на "Дожде").

P.S. Putin said (just a few seconds ago) it was backstroked by supporters of terrorism and it has fell in 4 kilometers away from Turkey. It was hit by a missile on 6 km attitude in 1 kilometer away from the Turkish border. It has definitely not been a threat for Turkey. So the things are getting worse and worse.

P.P.S. He said is clear "Turkey did it". He also said "we didn't want it and we will not tolerate it".

нужно было сопровождать бомберы истребителями, догонять и сбивать атакующий турецкий самолет. а не сидеть потом в дурацком положении. за ошибки нужно платить

This is not about religion. This is about money as usually. Turks are buying oil from ISIS in Syria. When Russian aviation started bombing the oil tracks, Turks shot down our bomber. This proves a direct economical connection between ISIS and Turkey.

Wrong again. They said they were shooting at them and one was killed. He has landed dead. Don't forget it happened on the Syrian territory which is controlled by terrorist groups supported by Turkey and USA (NATO) - in fact, the same guys who did the Paris massacre.

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that one of its jets, a Sukhoi SU-24, had crashed in Syria but said it had been downed “presumably as a result of shelling from the ground.”

The Russian Defense Ministry also asserted that, “The plane stayed exclusively above the territory of Syria throughout the entire flight,” and said that the two pilots had ejected.
Quote:

Last week, Turkey summoned the Russian ambassador, Andrey G. Karlov, to discuss Ankara’s concerns over the bombing of Turkmen villages in northern Syria and called for an immediate end to the Russian military operation close to the Turkish border, according to a Turkish Foreign Ministry statement.

“It was stressed that the Russian side’s actions were not a fight against terror, but they bombed civilian Turkmen villages and this could lead to serious consequences,” the statement said.

Ankara has long called for the protection of Turkmens, who are of Turkish descent, in Syria
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/25/wo...ary-plane.html

The Kremlin ought to get their stories straight ...

Quote:

Putin said the Russian SU-24 jet was shot by a missile from a Turkish jet over Syria about 1 kilometer (just over a half-mile) away from the Turkish border, which he described as a "stab in the back by the terrorists' accomplices."

Putin warned that the incident would have "significant consequences" for its relations with Turkey and criticized Ankara for turning to NATO to discuss the incident instead of first explaining to Russia what happened.
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2015...he-latest.html

You should have stayed away and thrown Assad under the bus.

Question is: was this a rogue pilot that violated Turkish airspace during hostile actions or was the pilot acting under ''direct orders''?

The Islamic Terrorist State (ISIS) forces were not at the Turkish border -- the pilots came down over anti-Syrian Government rebel positions and were shot dead by these rebels -- they had been dropping bombs on these rebels -- so what do you expect?

This isn't a Nintendo game:helpme
