Very simple: Champion free trade on the condition these 'poor' countries open their markets to competition both in terms of business players and investments.

Why?

The REAL SOLUTION to global poverty is TO GROW THE MIDDLE CLASS THROUGH MARKET-DRIVEN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

And you can't do that by POURING TRILLIONS into these countries because of their corrupt oligarchies.

Foster COMPETITION and the EASIER FLOW of goods and capital and you can REALLY HELP poor people.

Don't focus on how your chump change can make you 'feel better about helping poor people'... Focus instead on policies that produce RESULTS.

The only people your GUILT is helping are the SCUMBAG CORRUPT POLITICIANS AND MONOPOLISTS in 3rd World hell holes who simply SUCK UP your GUILT CASH.

You understand that this is your opinion right? I tend to agree with you in part. The third world is getting better all the time. A huge move in most countries is the education of women. They then have less babies and the whole system improves. I too have spent a ton of time in the third world and the other thing they lack is capital. So pouring in some money with a specific purpose is cool if it gets to that purpose.

Everyone wants to help countries that are poor. I feel bad sitting in my huge freaking house knowing that others spend all of their time hunting for food. But blindly sending them money isn't going to solve the problem either.

I ride a trail built by """"""""""""US Aid""""""""""" near my mountain house close to Zlatibor....it was money given to a local politician that built a gravel road to his village, where he has an old family house, it cost around 2 million euros, his company did the job, my friend supplied the machines, we use the road as an ATV trail, we are truly the only ones who ride it...I even have a photo somewhere where it says "donated by US aid from the american people" LOL
