Can you make a small paysite with members area in Wordpress?
 

I want to test out an idea and dont want to spend a lot of money just to test it out.

I just want to post some videos, some free and mostly pay, with a signup form and members area.

Can anyone recommend any Wordpress plugins and/or theme to do a members area?

In the past the problem I had was not so much wordpress or the theme that part was easy it was the processor.....Netbilling is good and widely supported if you have a merchant account but if yu needed CCBill...that was a different story...one of the posts above the theme works with paypal...well good luck with that, I think epoch now can do paypal but as paypal has done in the past paypal can just decide to yank that at anytime leaving you out in the cold.

Be sure you do your homework on this aspect

Build it in wordpress but use http basic authentication for the members area. Then you can use any biller and not worry about what bugs wordpress has in their membership system.
