The media talks about public fear

...and some media says the Republican Party is the party of fear...some say the government wants to keep the American people in fear so that they can be controlled/manipulated...etc. I personally do not know anyone that is living in fear...do any of you?

The public may have some concern but I do not think that fear us the proper word to use and the word fear is used simply for hype.

Look at gun sales after a shooting. The people buying are claiming they're buying them for protection. That's fear motivated buying.

Americans are scared to go to Europe after a terrorist attack. America is less safe than the EU.

The Patriot Act only got through because of fear.

Many Americans fear the government they elect.

Bush sold the war in Iraq, on fear.

A lot of Americans are scared of getting sick because of the cost. Same with unemployment and retirement.

Want more examples?

Clueless...in my opinion all of those are acts of concern and not fear...and concern is reasonable. I think fear is an emotion and is often unreasonable.

I have a friend of mine who lives in fear. Directly after the shooting in San Bernardino he went out and purchased himself a handgun. He works in a medical office, no military training; Wasn't even so much a Boy Scout when he was younger. Now all of a sudden he is John Wayne. He told me if there is ever an active shooter he is going to engage him and take him out. Easy. No training required.

LOL.

I want to be with him when shit goes down. He'll make a great target.

Because fear sells...

When a Presidential Candidate says he will build walls and shut out a race of people. You can be sure he's playing to people's fear factor.

The US invaded a nothing little country, based on fear.

It's kind of a hard question to answer.

My brother says he's not living in fear, but what he says and does makes me think that he is. Like in the US, he hates gun control laws of any kind, and is convinced that he guns are about to be taken away. He sends me all kinds of anti-muslim jokes, and things that bringing in the refugees here is a huge mistake. He thinks green energy is somehow some kind of liberal agenda and not genuine, etc. He "seems" afraid but if I were to ask him he would say he is not.

When I see or read about so-called survivalists who stock up on guns, ammo and survival rations, their actions seem to me like they are based in fear. They are preparing for the end of the world, or some kind of zombie apocalypse. To me, they buy and do these things because they are afraid. But in interviews, they seem calm.

Fox News spreads fear constantly. Even if you were a normally scared person, this kind of stuff would probably have less and less of an effect on you too. Maybe, people are not really afraid, but just a little nervous?
