Can anyone from New Zealand please help me out? (No Poo)

What I'm looking for is a place where I can 'buy' a tree thats planted in New Zealand. You know, the kinda thing where I can give a certificate as a present that states that my Son officially owns a tree at X/Y coordinates in New Zealand.

Obviously its not 'real' ownership, but you would get the location and a picture etc etc and it would be relatively official and make a nice gift? Don't mind paying out as long as its a legitimate place thats selling it and I get a nice 'pack' to present as the present :)

Its similar to how you can buy a star in the sky, but with a tree instead.

Anyone know of such a thing please?

Thanks :thumbsup

I wonder why you chose New Zealand for the tree?

My theory:

(1) Relatively remote from the geo political danger zone of the rest of the world.
(2) A healthy and self sufficient ecosystem.
(3) Fantastic weather, in case you want to visit your tree and provide human produced fertilizer ;)
(4) No major enemies around the world.
(5) Elevation of the land, now where concerns that:

Christchurch is very close to sea level so if you anticipate a rise in sea levels in future decades, don't chose this place. Opt instead for Auckland and choose higher land within Auckland.

Wish I could help but I'm not too close to the tree business.

I'll sell you a tree in Canada. I'll even take a poo and pee on it if you want, all done up with a certificate stating I pooed on it.

Too specific for me - I haven't lived there for years...

I like CS's idea though - Unfortunately most of the people I know from NZ have died or moved to Australia/UK - The one person I can think of, I am not sure I would trust to actually do it.....

Well thanks for the replies so far - My son wants to move there one day when the kids are older - He went there on his Honeymoon and loved it.

It would be a nice gift to say 'Heres a tree that you actually own in NZ... One step closer to you emigrating' :)

I doubt that its done so much these days in the time of the internet etc, but many many years ago, my older step brother (Who was high up in the Hong Kong police) sent me a gift pack for a tree somewhere in Hong Kong that I owned. It had a picture and a certificate and some legal mumbo jumbo (Which probably said I didn't actually 'own' the tree at all) but It was a nice gift anyway. Of course I was very young and dont have a clue what happened to it - But it was a nice gift.

Just wondering if it still goes on at a fairly official level :)

Wanna buy a tree in Croatia?

You can give the gift with words "guess where it is and I'll give you everything"

You can buy trees in the UK.

I will sell you one if you want.

Even bring it to you in person.

If you married me your son could go to NZ with no visas etc - I think so anyway...

Well I'm pretty open minded and I think my son is too... However, I have a nagging suspicion that his Wife may be less understanding... :winkwink:

MetaMan 12-18-2015 11:03 AM

Wire me $300 and i will make your kid a plaque and mail it to you. We can just lie to him about the tree and use a pic from google images. Ill put the pic in a nice frame and say "billies tree". He won't know the difference.
