I'm suprised that superhero movies are so successful at the box office...
Had the misfortune of watching 'Birdman' earlier today. What an awful film. OK, it started pretty strong with him levitating and using his superpowers to move small objects and stuff, but he didn't fly and you didn't see any monsters or other special effects until right at the very end... Even then it was only for about 10 mins...
OK Hollywood - I understand that every superhero needs a back-story, but to waste so much of the film establishing that he works in a theatre in order to keep his identity a secret was just WAY too long... I mean come on... It really DIDNT deliver - BORING :( Thats the last Superhero movie I'm gonna waste my time watching ! |
I think the reason people really liked that movie was the editing. Editing was interesting, fresh, cool idea. The movie itself was boring as hell. Did not like it at all. Did not like any of the characters.

I really liked it

god that movie sucked! It looked dumb before I watched it and I gave it the chance to change my mind but it didn't.
|
Birdman isn't really a superhero movie.

in that case i'd understand the disappointment |
I didn't see Birdman but I don't think its a super hero movie. It's about an actor who played a super hero, isn't it?
As for the rest of the Super Hero movies, it really depends on the movie itself. Almost all of the Marvel movies are pretty good though I prefer the movies about the individual heros better than the Avengers movies. DC's "Man of Steel" is extremely good in my opinion, though, I'm afraid Batman vs Superman will suck. |

But I suspect this is some kind of facetious post, in which case I'd say thanks for the laugh. |

BTW, it isn't a superhero movie, just a movie about an actor roo loose in his top paddock :thumbsup |
I find one thing interesting - avengers (together) or one by one in their solo movies, are saving the world in this or that way.
Since marvel makes them as part of a big story (chronological), isn't there a question of (regarding solo movies) - wtf are the others doing? Iron Man gets his iron balls kicked around the world, others are.. on a vacation? Bleh I say, BLEEEEEEEEEEH |
LOL, Birdman is superhero movie? No way. The thing that he had a super power was not that much relevant, it was not about that. Nice CS style troll :)
As for why actual superhero movies are popular: |

The unexpected virtue of ignorance.
Says it all right there... Birdman is a fantastic movie, a rare bird of a film. Satire isn't for everyone. |
I like Daredevil. Look forward to seeing Punisher in it next season.

I would say
1) they contain something that a generation of now grown ups may have an emotional attachment to 2) their kids want to see them too 3) they are so massively marketed to a generation that may have never had a chance to create any sort of taste in movies in a first place and was raised on 3D / CGI killing their attention span 4) there's not that much more to offer in multiplex cinemas so a comic book with a whole lot of CGI will do for many (not talking about kids, I am always amazed how actual grown ups act as if this is a regular thing to watch) |
Birdman is absolutely not a superhero movie. It's about mental illness of a man who used to be famous (kind of) and he's not anymore.
|
Birdman is one of those 'intelligent' movies, and I never know what to think of those... I guess I was trying to understand the point, which I don't!
Superheroes sell. End of story. Just like SF, just like Star Wars The Apology :D |

Btw I haven't seen the Birdman yet but from what I know about the movie I have no idea what even remote connection would it have with what's labeled as a 'super hero' genre.
