Peed off about my new wi-fi extender :(

Most of my house gets a good wi-fi signal, but an area of it I dont go in much doesnt. So I bought a wi-fi booster to give me a signal at that end.

Well I plugged it in and it all works but what pisses me off is that rather than simply extending my range, its created its own deal - ie my main wi-fi is mynetwork1 and this is mynetwork1_EXT

Meaning that I have to log into it separately. Totally negating the idea that I could roam the entire house with a tablet and get a signal everywhere seamlessly...

What an annoying piece of piss waste of my fucking time and money bullshit device. + its netgear too.. :(

Did i get the wrong type or do they all do that?

Can't you use mynetwork1_EXT as your main wi-fi?

I can get you a home made one that can do a bunch more since it is like a mini computer.

Not really because by default the newer ext would be too far away from the rooms I usually use. Hence why I put it in the other rooms to get signal in there.

I just visualised that it would extend my wifi into the other part of the house and I'd have the same signal throughout.

So while it does indeed work and brings wi-fi into the more distant rooms its still a separate connection - Not really an 'extension' of my usual one, which is what I had hoped to achieve.

Thanks but I'm not really bothered about more stuff. I mean it works - Just not exactly how I wanted it to work...

The extender has the same range as your original wifi source? Lame. You should return that shit and get a really long cord. :)

ottopottomouse 12-29-2015 10:27 AM

What tablet is it because usually once you have connected a device to a wifi network it will remember it and auto connect in future once it sniffs it in the air so it should flip between the two as you wander round your massive fucking castle.

That's a shame. We all know how much you like to be peed ON.

sandman! 12-29-2015 10:32 AM

well you bought netgear crap lol

you can replace your wifi with a few of these https://www.ubnt.com/unifi/unifi-ap/

you can setup multiple of those around the house and they will act as 1 device.

the cheapest one is around $75 on ebay the better ones are around $300

Thats what sold me on it - I imagined the yellow bit to still be the same login info as the original blue bit...

But tbh thats total overkill. I just wanted the same signal in another part of the house - not a separate signal...

But never mind - Its all done now anyway.

I guess your router is also 802.11n or 802.11ac - the longest range available as far as I know. Supposed to have something like 70 meters range. You must have a huge home or lots of solid wood doors.

Sandman knows what he's talking about. Those access points sound like what you want.

are you in the playboy mansion or something? I wish I had that problem. I have had the neighbors asking to use mine and they are not close at all. In fact I didn't even believe them when they said it was picking it up.
They are far enough away that I don't mind them as neighbors LOL
Maybe get a better original one so you don't need that extender thing.

Well I hope you get it fixed so you can see poo all day!
