Online advertising has ruined mobile browsing.
Pop ups, popunders, overlays, auto play videos, this site needs your location, that site wants you to go social with the article before it even loads.
So many times I find myself hitting the back button without ever getting to read the article. |
Pretty much so if you aren't hitting the back button you are hitting x QUICK
|
Agreed. I don't even bother clicking through what remotely looks interesting anymore because I know I'll be inundated with bullshit, or have to "click next" a dozen times to jack up someone's display ad numbers.
You'll never believe #14!!!! MEH. |
Anyone using mobile ad blockers?
|
"Open in the store?" Is everywhere
|
And they wonder why someone would want to use a ADD BLOCKER.
Most of them were flash. Got rid of that for security reasons. Dis-associated some file-types in the browser. Everyone still wants to know who I am and were I have been through cookies used in the adverts and facebook log-in courtesy. It seems to me that webmasters leaned a big lesson about user experience 10 years ago. What happened ? $$$$$$$$ a few cents of data here and there eventually become a new biz model when that data is sold to others that have even more of it. Painting a whole new picture that is worth even more. And most are willing to give up their fingerprint and retina image to be a hackable item just for a feeling of security. No conspiracy here, just greed. You want what for free ? |

Totally agree. Ad Blocker FTW.

Yep. Same here. And not just on mobile devices either. Bastards. :321GFY |
bunch of webmasters complaining that some free content is not presented ad-free... :1orglaugh
obviously those webmasters are different, they don't deserve to make a buck like the rest of us... they are obviously bunch of pricks, and they put these ads on there to piss people off, it obviously couldn't have anything to do with the fact that these ads are 10x more profitable than the "non-intrusive" ads surfers think should only be allowed on websites... :1orglaugh |

Mobile is actually a HUGE problem as I see it. I live in New York City and I see so many people walking the streets with their eyes glued to screens it's scary. You can't walk like that in a city like New York! But I see it everywhere and it's amazing I don't see more fatalities.
So we don't need more distractions on our phones. I can't even play two rounds of Angry Birds on the subway without getting bombarded by game ads. Quote:
GREAT article. |

besides, if mobile advertisers want to get noticed, then they'll realize this is a bigger problem for them than me, i can go elsewhere to get my news, and do. |
