Online advertising has ruined mobile browsing.

Pop ups, popunders, overlays, auto play videos, this site needs your location, that site wants you to go social with the article before it even loads.

So many times I find myself hitting the back button without ever getting to read the article.

Pretty much so if you aren't hitting the back button you are hitting x QUICK

Evil Chris 12-29-2015 02:05 PM

Agreed. I don't even bother clicking through what remotely looks interesting anymore because I know I'll be inundated with bullshit, or have to "click next" a dozen times to jack up someone's display ad numbers.

You'll never believe #14!!!!

MEH.

OneHungLo 12-29-2015 02:25 PM

Anyone using mobile ad blockers?

poncabare 12-29-2015 02:28 PM

"Open in the store?" Is everywhere

VRPdommy 12-29-2015 02:37 PM

And they wonder why someone would want to use a ADD BLOCKER.

Most of them were flash. Got rid of that for security reasons.
Dis-associated some file-types in the browser.
Everyone still wants to know who I am and were I have been through cookies used in the adverts and facebook log-in courtesy.

It seems to me that webmasters leaned a big lesson about user experience 10 years ago. What happened ?

$$$$$$$$ a few cents of data here and there eventually become a new biz model when that data is sold to others that have even more of it. Painting a whole new picture that is worth even more.

And most are willing to give up their fingerprint and retina image to be a hackable item just for a feeling of security.

No conspiracy here, just greed. You want what for free ?

I agree - mobile ads are a real problem. I don`t use any ad-blockers on my desktop/laptop because I`m happy to view/enable ads particularly if the site has some decent content. Mobile ads however just steer me towards hitting the x or back button because they can be so aggressive. :(

2MuchMark 12-29-2015 02:45 PM

Totally agree. Ad Blocker FTW.

bunch of webmasters complaining that some free content is not presented ad-free... :1orglaugh

obviously those webmasters are different, they don't deserve to make a buck like the rest of us... they are obviously bunch of pricks, and they put these ads on there to piss people off, it obviously couldn't have anything to do with the fact that these ads are 10x more profitable than the "non-intrusive" ads surfers think should only be allowed on websites... :1orglaugh

if you can't see that there is a problem with overwhelming mobile advertising.................don't blame those of us who can.

you haven't directly, but some in this thread seem to imply that there is something wrong with trying to monetize content in aggressive ways...

yea, I don't see it, it's not the best user experience, but the content is free... so complaining about the number of ads seems a bit lame...

The Porn Nerd 12-29-2015 03:27 PM

Mobile is actually a HUGE problem as I see it. I live in New York City and I see so many people walking the streets with their eyes glued to screens it's scary. You can't walk like that in a city like New York! But I see it everywhere and it's amazing I don't see more fatalities.

So we don't need more distractions on our phones. I can't even play two rounds of Angry Birds on the subway without getting bombarded by game ads.

but often times i can't even get to the content because all the shit hasn't/won't load, on LTE. so it's not even free because it's not even really accessible, and it's frustrating. i get all the ads but not the content. that's not what works. and wanting to access my phone so i can read an article about miley cyrus? please.

besides, if mobile advertisers want to get noticed, then they'll realize this is a bigger problem for them than me, i can go elsewhere to get my news, and do.
