Just WHAT am i doing wrong? SEO
So i started a hip hop music site 4 months ago. I have about 700 songs (i add 4+ a day) with original 100 word description. In these 4 months the most google traffic i have gotten is 12 a day. Now i owned other sites before in hiphop and i was getting 1000 a day after a month.
Couple of thing i think could be the problem. 1.Redirected a old domain to this site. 2.Only have 2 back links. (TF: 8 and CF: 39 on majestic) 3.Programmer made a subdomain called dev.site.com with identical content as the site so we don't have to work on the live site. Google picked this subdomain up. I have since put it under a user/password. 4.the song titles are the same as other sites Should i kill this site and start new? I don't know what to do. |

2. You need way more than 2 backlinks to rank well in search engines. 3. Using duplicate content on a subdomain is definetely a problem for your SEO. 4. This niche is kinda difficult to compete with large music networks, in my opinion. Quote:

What is your site?

Why would search engines rank your site higher than existing music sites? Think about that. How will surfers prefer your site, link to your pages, and keep coming back?

I believe I have a better design/user experience than all other sites. Only thing I don't have is backlinks. |
I would start over FRESH

Why not come up with something original to promote your site, e.g. a YouTube video that could go viral. One idea might be having people rapping really badly then say see how the pros do it at your site.
Also, use Twitter if you aren't already. Instagram ac promoting a rap lifestyle with good pics. |
Google will actually tell you what you're doing wrong check out: Google Webmaster Tools
|
Can we see a link to your site? Your site is only 4 months so it may take a while for google to notice.
|
What kind of hip hop music is it? Old school, new school, etc? What timeframe?
|
Add enough backlinks and you will rank with something regardless.

White hat SEO is actually pretty simple. Your site needs to have content that the people search will find interesting. To ensure your content has interesting content, here are two elements you need to have (among others):
1. keyword targeting - you need to be targeting high traffic keywords that are relevant to your pages. Google webmaster tools will show you the ctr of your site in the search results. If you have a low CTR, you're not going to rank well so you may have to better target your keywords or work on your meta titles / meta descriptions for higher ctr. 2. Bounce rate / pages per visit. If you have a high bounce rate and/or low average number of pages viewed per session, Google will think you have sucky content. Sucky content doesn't get ranked well in the search. It doesn't matter if you have 1 or 1000 domains redirected and I recommend against starting fresh. If you're really serious about achieving your target, I think you should hire an SEO consultant like me :pimp |
