Any one using Hostzealot VPS service ?
Any one using Hostzealot VPS service ?
Had your site been down due to "physical memory" as a cause ? Or the cause is the other things ? |
What they say?
|
down due to "memory" issue,
I am in their lowest level plan. Do you think it is the reason to cause the problem ? Real memory 112.63 MB total / 40.15 MB used Virtual memory 249.99 MB total / 81.68 MB used Local disk space 4.67 GB total / 2.65 GB free / 2.02 GB used |
What is your site?

What do the logs say? If you run out of memory and start swapping then things get slow. If you run out of swap, you crash. That's a tiny vps too. Shit, my old phone has better specs.

>> What do the logs say?
They set up for me after the down, so only know in future. >> That's a tiny vps too. Shit, my old phone has better specs. so you think I need more memory ? upgrade to a higher plan ? what memory size is a better bet based on my above data ? |
It looks like you're running Apache. If you're just serving static HTML, you might be ok as long as you don't get more than a few visits at a time.
Digitalocean gives you 512MB of RAM for $5/mo. Linode has 1GB for $10/mo. Everything of mine that isn't on a dedicated box is on Linode and I've been really happy with them. They have had some DDoS issues recently but that can happen to any host. |
I overlooked the option from Digitalocean, many thanks.
|
For $10 plan, Digitalocean or Linode is better ?
|
I like Linode but it's personal preference. IP reputation kinda sucks on digital ocean but if you aren't sending emails from your vps it won't matter.

Hostzealot's reply
there is a difference between virtualization plans. KVM virtualization, which is used in our case, ensures guaranteed resources, while Digital Ocean features only max. RAM. ---------------- But KVM virtualization cannot prevent my site down. |
Digital ocean and Linode both use kvm. It sounds like your host is blowing smoke. To be clear, if you run out of memory and swap, your server will crash regardless of host. More memory is the solution.
|
Many thanks.

Are there any server settings that would causing much RAM usage ?
I wish to disable not really important/optional setting to release more usable memory. Thanks. |
