What's A Good Virus/Malware Prog?..

As I clicked Install I knew it was a mistake - For some reason I did it any way - Never seen so much shit downloaded and installed on one machine - I ran Windows defender and it is 7+ hours later and it is still scanning...

I really don't want to reformat this machine - If defender doesn't work is there anything you can recommend that actually works on this stuff?....

I tried MalwareBytes BTW - It got rid of some registry entries and then died...

rogueteens 02-06-2016 11:38 AM

avast, spybot and ccleaner

klinton 02-06-2016 11:48 AM

combofix and kaspersky

ottopottomouse 02-06-2016 12:27 PM

I Know you don't want to but if you're already hours into trying to clean it up and not getting finished wouldn't you be better reformatting just to make sure it's properly clean for peace of mind?

Sly 02-06-2016 12:29 PM

I would wash it clean and then install Kaspersky. No matter what you run, there always seems to be leftovers.

ruff 02-06-2016 09:23 PM

Use the free Malwarebytes.org and then Spybot the fucker. safer-networking.org

EddyTheDog 02-06-2016 09:27 PM

I am going to have to reformat the fucker - Not sure how that is gong to work though - I did the free upgrade to 7 from 10 - You can't just load 10 for free as far as I know...

In fact i am not even sure you can still do the free upgrade from 7?....

SilentKnight 02-06-2016 09:43 PM

Ran into the same situation with my old Acer laptop - ran every spyware/cleaner...but nothing improved the performance. It had untold thousands of hours on it...just gettin' tired. It always ran hot anyways...even with a twin-fan cooling pad under it.

I gave up and bought a new system - I hate formating and startin' from scratch like the old days. Would've been a waste of time anyways.

plaster 02-06-2016 09:47 PM

Use restore to earlier date and don't waste 150 hours of your time.

Thought of that as well - The problem is the the OS and PS etc are on an SSD and space is limited - So I deleted the restore files to make some space a few days ago - ooops...

plaster 02-06-2016 09:51 PM

Oopsie...

Wow you have issues with every solution. Are we related?? haha I'd just use the big tool (sledgehammer) and go buy a new PC with the issues you are having or take it to a pro

ITraffic 02-06-2016 09:54 PM

buy a new computer.

Defender with windows 10 is by far the fastest and best.

My advise has not changed in 15 years.
Don't use the free crap if it matters.
Stay away from the most popular because they are targets for circumvention.

this is why I pay the town homeless man to program my anti virus. No one else uses his software so it's not popular to cut down on the dreaded circumcision you speak of

Download this:
Process Explorer

Look at the processes running and be weary of anything not signed that you don't recognize.

Then do a search on the process running and follow any necessary steps on removing/stopping those processes

klinton 02-07-2016 01:39 AM

DID YOU TRY COMBOFIX ?

use it and thank me later :)

Been using Eset Nod32 for 7 years without issues.

ErectMedia 02-07-2016 07:41 AM

Been using Anti Malware Software - Bitdefender Total Security 2016 for many years on desktop/laptop with zero issues. :2 cents:

bronco67 02-07-2016 08:44 AM

malwarebytes + avast has kept me clean for years....and like most people I can go to some pretty dirty places. I would be scared to try anything else after that combo's great track record.

Paul&John 02-07-2016 09:22 AM

Eset ;)

You still can upgrade for free from W7 to W10. And as I know you can do clean install of W10 for free with no need to upgrade first.

pornguy 02-08-2016 07:00 AM

TrendMicro Run the housecall one first and then get the anti.

anexsia 02-08-2016 02:29 PM

Right now I'm using Sophos Home (They are big on corporate/business protection but recently started a free home protection suite), Malwarebytes Antimalware Lifetime Edition (picked it up for $20 from Newegg), and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit.

Adraco 02-08-2016 03:00 PM

I have used Super Anti Spyware to clean up more client PCs than I ever bothered counting. Worth each and every buck!

I also like the Trend Micro Housecalls, since those are really hard for the programs to avoid. Symantec used to have one online too, but has changed.

And as I always say, never, never ever surf on a PC where you are logged in as admin. If your user has the permissions to do all stuff, so will a bad program. Always have a "day to day" user, with standard permission. A virus or malware has to be exceptionally good, to gain higher or better user priviledges then the user you are logged in with. Easy and free security tip!

Klen 02-08-2016 03:40 PM

Switch to linux and forget what virus means.

EddyTheDog 02-08-2016 03:42 PM

Thanks everyone - It seems there are almost as many anti malware programs as there are malware...

avast

GamblingDomains 02-15-2016 03:49 AM

AVG is good too

j3rkules 02-15-2016 05:19 AM

Malwarebytes does the job.

TubeSubmitters 02-15-2016 05:28 AM

Try Malvarebytes in combination with Nod32 antivirus.

XMaster 02-15-2016 09:05 AM

depends on the malware but Hijack this can be useful anyway.

in2cams 02-15-2016 09:10 AM

There is no good virus. Tried pig, chicken, hippodrome, and I am seriously considering a shot against the next string of influenza. Viruses are less predictable than the common malwares distributed with a touch of paypal.

Just kill the bug as soon as you see it with many of the above mentioned .:2 cents:
