Have you ever eaten a seagull?

http://www.thefabuloustimes.com/wp-c...agaraFalls.jpg

They look a bit like chickens in a way to me, cause they are almost the same size and bird shaped so I'm thinking of trying one... Theres fucking LOADS where I live so I reckon I could probably catch one fairly easy...

Before I Catch, Kill n Cook... Anyone know what they taste like? :helpme

ottopottomouse 02-06-2016 12:48 PM

You need a licence to kill them and with all the rubbish they eat i'm not sure how germy they might be anyway.

EddyTheDog 02-06-2016 12:54 PM

I bet they taste like shit - Oh wait...

MaDalton 02-06-2016 12:55 PM

they are evil, they eat you

If you watch QI you will know that seagulls do not exist.

They are gulls.

They do not go out to sea.

It's a word for a gull that lives near the sea. Of course it doesn't go out to sea, how would it find food away from the shore?

So they do go out to sea. Truth debunked, back to the myth.

Rob 02-06-2016 02:07 PM

We cooked one at a bon fire when I was in high school. Good old Gandy Bridge and the Redneck Riviera. :thumbsup

I didn't eat it myself, but the ones who did said it tasted like a mix of mud and rotten chicken. People eat pigeon, so I don't see the problem with eating a seagull. If I were starving, I'd eat one. They'd be easy as fuck to catch.

I always heard they go out into open sea to die. Could be a sailor's tale, who knows.

420 02-06-2016 02:09 PM

It's barely edible. http://fis.com/fis/worldnews/images/...0_72_DPI_0.jpg

QI : Quite Interesting

Quote:

The term â??seagullâ?? is a misnomer which infuriates many ornithologists. Gulls live on the coast and inland, but donâ??t venture far out to sea as a rule; they swim well, but never dive. Their numbers in the UK have exploded since 1956 as a result of the Clean Air Act, which made it illegal to burn rubbish at landfills, massively increasing their food supply. Gulls are known to dive-bomb humans and splatter them, deliberately, with their patent cocktail of ammonia, four different acids, viruses, bacteria and fungal infections. Thereâ??s usually a four-stage attack: first the â??gagâ?? call, a signal to go away, then a low pass if the first warning is ignored, followed by dropping their load â?? of guano, vomit or both. The final stage is a full-on 40mph aerial assault, normally from behind.

It looks like a Tern, not a common Sea Gull... though it could be a Herring Gull. Sea Gulls don't generally dive now that i think about it. Many many years fishing in the Bering Sea, grew up in Alaska, grew up commercial fishing and now that i think about it, I don't think they dive at all.

Yes, that is a tern - They are not Sea Gulls (Coast Gulls?)...

Yeah, its a tern. I was trying to be polite. :)

.....

On a side note, i've eaten most things in Alaska from white swans, brown bear, black bear, to walrus, whale, porpoise, beaver, sea lions/seals, squirrels etc. You name it. It never once in my life occurred to me to eat a sea bird. They are scavengers and live off of rotten garbage and decomposed carcasses. Generally, animals taste depends on their diet. Obviously, a sea gull is not going to taste good. Any scavenger is going to taste like shit and are going to taste like whatever they've been eating recently. Wild pigeons are not the same as pigeons that eat garbage in the city.

You've probably already eaten one without knowing, if you live in a UK seaside town the local Chinese take-aways all have bird traps on their roofs to save money on chicken

Best-In-BC 02-06-2016 07:51 PM

You dont eat game birds that feed in the ocean. Gammy and salty, trust me
