Mad Max:Fury Road wins 6 Academy Awards

if you couldn't let yourself enjoy this feast for the senses, turn in your movie card.

Why Mad Max won all those Oscars

2MuchMark 02-29-2016 12:39 PM

Still sucked.

rogueteens 02-29-2016 12:54 PM

Of course it didn't suck. ********** can't let himself like it simply because I like it.

Still haven't seen it yet...

CaptainHowdy 02-29-2016 01:50 PM

"Spotlight" is far worse than "Mad Max: Fury Road" ...

SilentKnight 02-29-2016 01:51 PM

It just seemed like one long chase from start to finish. Minimal plot. Felt like I was watching a quick-edit music video..burned me out after the first hour. Stunts were cool - but I was expecting more from the plot.

I was surprised it took so many Oscars.

That's all it was meant to be. There wasn't even a script. Every frame was basically a story board first, then filmed. The awards stem from the technical and creative components that made that happen.

I agree. Everything about this movie was great, except a script.

Script is number one for me, though :)

Side note:

Sometimes I even say things like screenplay author is more important than director to me. What I mean is that great script and average director would make a movie way better than average script and great director.
Screenplay authors are underrated.

Script = screenplay right? I think that's what I meant anyway, there was no screenplay, that's why it wasn't up for an Oscar in that category.

I guess you forgot you already posted elsewhere that you liked it.

Nevertheless, no biggie, you changed your mind and now you think it sucked. We get it. Just like I don't enjoy transformers movies and you do.

Mad Max is an overrated piece of garbage.

Nice technical shit, but the film had NO STORY and NO DIALOGUE and NO STORY!!! Max had about 6 lines and had almost nothing to do with anything.

Just a bunch of cars racing thru the desert, toss in some models for eye candy, put some intense make up and a bluescreen wrap on her arm (so original) on Charlize, and have yet another Darth Vader copy.

But, I will say the flaming guitar player was the coolest thing ever. At least that was "some what" original.

I am sick of seeing Darth Vader rip offs in every fucking movie!!!

Deserved recognition for the tech shit but as a movie it was a typical hollywood money grab.
first Mad Max I did not sit through in one shot and hoped it was over asap after bouts 30 mins
Ending was left open so god help us they roll out another turd in 2-3 years

Yanks_Todd 03-01-2016 07:27 AM

I will have to add it to my list.:thumbsup

Using the "no story or plot" thing is an idiot's criticism.

Does Full metal Jacket have a story or plot? That's regarded as one of the greatest movies ever.

A movie needs to engage, whether its through visuals or story. Mad Max has a narrative and plenty of subtext, you just can't see it because gums aren't flapping.

By the way, subtext doesn't mean subtitles.

Evil Chris 03-01-2016 08:31 AM

This is incorrect. The film makers weren't trying to "fix" anything. The movie was intended to be a visually told action movie. if you think it sucked, no biggie, no movie is for everyone and when Hollywood tries to make a movie for everyone we get movies like the Transformers. nevertheless, the entire point of the movie is the action and stunts and special effects. if you didn't like the characters, that's only because you didn't like the characters, other people did and do like the characters, again not every film should be liked by everyone.

congrats to MM:FR for dominating the 2016 Oscars.

it's fascinating to me how polarizing this film is for people.

Do You Realize Mad Max: Fury Road Is A Miracle?

Mad Max: Fury Road was a masterpiece. It is a credit to the entire medium on every. Single. Level. The Oscars should have rewarded it, and George Miller, for doing absolutely everything right. Not most things. Everything.

Fury Road is a gorgeous movie—with a bunch of important underlying messages about autonomy, sexism, climate change, greed... Fury Road has everything, executed with a grace that is frankly astonishing. This movie makes impossible things look damn easy. Even its own backstory—the years Miller and co. spent laboring to get it done, in the face of mind-blowing setbacks—exhibit the best kind of filmmaking passion. There is not a single thing that the other nominees did, that Mad Max didn’t also do. Usually better.

Mad Max Won All the Oscars, Except the Ones It Really Deserved

No worries. Anyone can say a movie is good or bad but of course a lot of it is relative. One person can really enjoy a movie while another can really hate the same movie.

I thought the movie sucked because since I had no investment in the characters, I didn't care who died. I thought it sucked because it had plot holes, etc.

Then again, none of that matters. It's a movie that demands suspension of disbelief. A bunch of crazy people chasing each other through the desert with crazier and crazier stunts. Who cares about the story?

Then again, I care about the story. I thought Interstellar had a great story. Sure it had its flaws but I was wrapped up in it. I like all of the Marvel movies because there's a shit-ton of detail in them and they all tie into each other movie.

My favourite movies are Back to the Future, Somewhere in Time, Star Trek TMP and Wrath of Khan, Crash, Logans Run, Captain America:Winter Soldier, Hulk (Eric Bana version) to name a few. All very different, all stories I really liked. Some might agree and some won't. My point is, is that my opinion doesn't matter. Dynamo is happy that his favourite movie won awards. Good for him! I still think it sucked, but he shouldn't care.

Yes I agree completely. But then again, I did not completely hate water world. It was "ok" but didn't impress me despite its huge price tag.

Again, opinion. Not a every movie should appeal to everyone and follow typical conventions of how a movie is and have some sort of thought provoking point. And we certainly don't want that either.

Nevertheless, the film won 6 academy awards.

Are you fucking kidding me?? Full Metal Jacket is one of the BEST Dialogue films ever. Great characters sewn in with GREAT dialogue and a splash of violence. That movie is a great "slice of life" and is not plot driven.

The new Mad Max has NO DIALOGUE, NO PLOT and NO STORY. IF you remove the cars and the explosions you HAVE NOTHING. IF I were 10 years old, I would've loved the new Mad Max.

Don't ever compare Full Metal Jacket to Mad Max.

There's dialogue in Full Metal Jacket...but it's inconsequential to the narrative of the movie. The quantity of characters talking doesn't make a movie good or bad.

Anyway, I'm not going to try to explain a simple concept to an idiot who thinks he's made a point because he chooses to use giant red and green fonts. It's a fruitless endeavor.

The masterful filmmaking of George Miller can only be appreciated by people who truly love movies. I haven't seen one thoughtful rebuttal from haters. It's usually "it has no plot, there's no dialogue, it's boring, blah blah blah". Like I said earlier...these are exactly the type of criticisms which are leveled by idiots who like garbage movies. There's no way for them to recognize a good movie because they lack the sensibility to comprehend what makes a movie good and generally loved.

If you think this movie is boring then there's nothing out there for you to enjoy.

Insulting people's intelligence because they enjoyed a movie you didn't smacks of insecurity and snobbery. Making up bullshit about the movie just so you can make that insult reveals more about you than the people you need to insult simply because they were able to enjoy something.
