Does Amy Adams truly think she should have made as much as Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper?

People go to movies to see Christian and Bradley. Nobody goes to a movie to see Amy Adams. Most people have no idea who she even is.

The actress told British GQ magazine that she agreed to play a con artist opposite Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner despite being paid less than them for the 2013 film.

Adams? co-star Jennifer Lawrence wrote in an essay published last year that she blamed herself for failing as a negotiator when she learned from leaked Sony emails that her male co-stars were paid more.

Maybe (I haven't seen the movie) she did somewhat proportinally less work/scenes/on screen time than them.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence made more than any other actress last year ($52m) and is fighting inequality every day. Is the highest-paid actress in the industry, at age 25, the best person to be doing that? I can only imagine the older actresses are rolling their eyes.

Still can't understand why do they bitch about their salary.. I mean they are making millions per movie or something.. the leading guys/girls from The Big Bang Theory are making around a million per episode (each!). Does it really matter? I mean "only" a million a year would make 99% of the population happy.. then they openly bitch about it on TV and in papers and the next thing they do is make a photo shoot with some poor African kid who is starving and how the World should unite to help them.

Not that she needs defending, but Amy Adams has 5 Oscar nominations since 2006. I'd say she is more than just some unknown chick bitching about pay.

That said, Bale is a big name after the Batman movies whereas she is likely lesser known even though she has a lot of accomplishments and his part in that movie was bigger so I don't see why he wouldn't get more money. If the roles were reversed and she was just coming off a movie that was a box office smash and she had the bigger part I could see her having a bigger point.

Women should be seen and not heard...

Oscar nominations do not equal high pay. Look at all of the Grammy WINNERS that are dirt broke.

They are awards that have no cash value. In her case, it wasn't even an award, it was a nomination.

She can always demand more money, but won't see many roles offered to her!
Those who make the big bucks are those who bring in people to see their movies which in turn make big bucks. Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper are well known names with money making movies under their belts

Actually, I saw an interview with Sean Penn a while back when someone asked him what having an Oscar nomination meant to him and he said it would allow him to double his fee.

A Grammy is a different situation because the music industry is very much a commission based business. You make money from selling records and tickets to concerts. With acting you are hired to be in a movie and (unless you are getting a piece of the profit) you get paid up front before the cameras even begin to role and often times you can do a great job in a movie and the movie still doesn't do well at the box office.

All that said, it is still a results based business. If you are in a couple of big blockbuster movies you are likely going to get paid more than someone else who was in smaller movies that were more critically acclaimed.

Of course she also spends equal time fighting the radical gender bias in the family court system because she believes everyone should have equal rights.

I thought she was good in AH as was Lawrence, but Bale was what made that movie tick for me. He was great as he is in every movie, he deserves more than the rest. Cooper getting more than her does seem somewhat unfair, but the simple economics point that cooper puts butts in seats just with his name. That's worth something.

I had to look her up, no clue who she was until I did that.

You just negated your own statement about it being unfair. You do not get paid for how well you perform or how much work you put on set. You get paid based on your value of someone who can attract people to pay tickets.
So even if she put more work and if she acted better than Cooper it is still fair for her to paid less if Cooper was the one who attracted more people than her.
I thought things like that are pretty obvious.

So why did she take the job?

I suggest next time she's not offered an acceptable price for her work, she turns it down.
