Trying to decide on a car
I have 3 options in my price range.
Car A 2012 Nissan Versa 40,000 miles for $8,800 still has 20,000 miles left on the power train. Cons the car has a small dent on the drivers side door. The steering wheel making a clicking knocking sound when you move the steering wheel back and forth, they said it was a minor fix and they would take care of it. Car is from a dealer Car B 2012 Nissan Versa 52,000 miles still under Warranty for another 8,000 miles. Asking price is $8,700 Maybe has transmission problem since theirs a rubbing when driving, they will check and fix the car before it's put on the lot for sale. One red flag for me on this car was the lining on the back seat was pulled back and it looks like the previous owner stashed something behind the seat. They said they would fix it. Kind of paranoid it was drugs I don't want to be around chemicals even if they clean the car out. Car is from dealer Car C 2012 Nissan Versa 65,000 miles has a brand new transmission still has a 12,000 warranty since it just got done. I looked under the car I saw some fresh fluid seeping out of the transmission seal and the seal was damp. I took it to a mechanic he said for a car with 65,000 that's normal I told him it is a brand new transmission he said I should get it checked out. I called the place that repaired the transmission he sounds like some shady arab dude and he said that's normal because the car is old and said it doesn't need to be repaired I call BS. The guy selling the car told me I can take it to AAMCO if I want. He lowered the price to $7600 I think I can talk him down to $7000 he said if I don't buy it he will trade it in. Car is from private party Which car would you buy and why? |
None of them.
Keep looking, those sound like pieces of shit, the least piece of shit sounds like car a, but still sounds like a piece of shit. I'd rather ride a bicycle. |
Why not just buy a new car with a warranty ?
All of those cars sound like they have problems. |

Besides whatever problems those cars have they are solvable with some extra cash on top of purchase price. |
Any reason your only looking at Nissan Versa? Sounds like they have transmission issues. Plenty of other compact cars for low prices. Kia Rio, Ford focus, Chevy sonic etc
|
I need to do Uber and those cars you listed don't have good leg room. Only the Versa has the best leg room for the price.

Use the metro, or force your city to build one.
|
Those aren't your only options. Those are simply the options you've limited yourself to.
|
you should go ahead and get a Prius

Car A 2012 Nissan Versa 40,000 miles - Steering clicking does not sound good.
Can't you keep looking until you find a Versa without problems? |
new cars are for suckers.
|
used cars are junk.
|
All 3 have problems? Damn not going to buy a Versa any time soon.

In 2013 I bought a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 35k miles on it. It now has $60k miles on it, only had one issue. I paid $18k for the Jeep and it's still like brand new. A brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee goes for $30k - $35k, and that's the base model. I'll never buy a new car again. Just not worth it. |
I see nice ones for around $10K here
You get what you pay for in used cars usually. Every used car or truck I have ever bought cheap ended up costing a lot :2 cents: I would suggest that you buy a better used car for $16K with the $8K as a down payment -- drive something better and make payments for 3 years. |

Depreciation is a mother fucker. Car loses value as soon as you drive it off the lot. For the OP, why are you limiting yourself to 3 choices? And why are those three choices Nissan Versas? It looks like your budget ceiling is roughly $9,000. There are so many other options out there for that amount. And I would never purchase a vehicle from a private party, even if they were close friends. Unless it was a rebuild, then private party is fine. I would always use a reputable dealer, even if I have to pay a little more.

dont buy new.... Because if depreciation. Buy a newer used car with a warranty.
