it's not that, it's the message the jury sent. the testimony on behalf of the Marriot was seriously compelling. to think that in spite of that, the jury said fuck all that, give her $55m because she came across as sincere is the real story here. again, i think she was sincere, but the sincerity of the Marriot's professionalism was as equally profound. i was shocked and chagrined at the award.

Im sure marriott / marriott's insurance will appeal but if they lose why/how would they be able to not pay out? File bankruptcy over 55 mill?

I would think collecting from a huge corp like marriott would be pretty straight forward.

I had read that the Marriott in question is a franchise and not actually owned by the big corporation. I don't know if that makes a differences, but if there Marriott corp isn't liable for the money and she has to collect it from the franchise owners she will likely only get whatever the max coverage from their insurance is.

She will never collect anything from the portion that was awarded from the stalker. Out of Marriot's portion, her attorneys will take at least 40% because it went to trial.

She is looking at maybe $15m. It took 8 years to get it, and Marriot will most likely appeal if the order is appealable, and tie it up in appellate court for a few more years.

Did she notify the hotel of the stalker? If not, she should get nothing.
