Trudeau calls Americans ignorant

Ahead of his first official trip to Washington, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has suggested his counterparts south of the border would do well to know more about the rest of the world.

In an interview with CBS's "60 Minutes", to be aired Sunday, Trudeau was asked about what Canadians perhaps disliked about Americans. He answered in stereotypical Canadian fashion, suggesting "it might be nice" if Americans "paid a little more attention to the world."

First offical act as PM dump on your neighbors and Obama throws a party. Nice going!

I caught this 60 mins the other day and everything he said was pretty much spot on if you watched the whole segment.

that's weird because everyone else in the world is saying US should stop paying attention to the rest of the world on account of US mucks it up wherever we pay attention.

His father had wife management issues!

2MuchMark 03-09-2016 10:41 PM

so, where did he actually call Americans "ignorant"?

Quine 03-09-2016 10:50 PM

I'm so glad Canadians elected Tumblr as their PM.

I can't believe he said we are ignorant. We know what is going on out there. Very upset, since "In Cold Blood" is my favorite book.

Yes, it is well documented and I do not deny that I have anger issues, however, I consider that a plus! :thumbsup

And that, in some pea-brained minds, somehow translates to "Americans are ignorant"

Yup, I just popped it into Google Translate; Canadian-to-US American and sure enough that's what it means.

A-mazing.

he's a self-involved butthurt canadian libtard that looks up to America, his comments prove that:::::

Lara Logan: What do Canadians not like about the U.S?

Justin Trudeau: You know, I had a conversation one time with an American parent of a friend of mine and she was a big supporter of a presidential candidate. And I pointed out that if that person was run-- if indeed this man was running to be-- as Americans like to say, the "most powerful man in the world," I just felt like it might be nice if they paid a little more attention to the world. So having a little more of an awareness of what's going on in the rest of the world, I think, is what many Canadians would hope for Americans. Because you can't be Canadian without being aware of at least one other country, the United States, 'cause it's so important to us.

I think we sometimes like to think that, you know, Americans will pay attention to us from time to time, too.
this thread doesn't prove anything.

Trudeau never said that - in fact USA and Canadian relations have never been better now that our old prime minister is gone and Trudeau took over. There is more of a spirit of cooperation.

Ah yes, it's all rainbows and unicorns ever since the golden boy took over. This guy could murder kittens on live tv but he would still be loved by the flock because he is the anointed one.

i don't really like his ideas so far either but you turn every conversation about our government into a life and death to our nation thing... give it a rest.. we have never had anyone of significance in office in our lifetime neither good or bad..

while he didn't use the exact word "ignorant", his comment is in regards to his view that AmericanS, every single one of us, are ignorant of the world outside our borders, in particular, Canada.

Sure I might tend toward hyperbole sometimes but I have been around long enough to have grown very tired of the Liberal's implied claims that they are Canada and Canada is them. The whole "Canada is back" thing was particularly annoying.

He's just a little butthurt that you guys don't care. One of the reporters covering the White House visit polled people asking if they were aware of the Prime Minister's visit. 45% of people said they "Didn't care". They then did a poll were they showed a picture of Tudeau and asked if they could identify him, most couldn't, one person asked if it was David Duchovny, and a few people recognized him as the PM but called him "Pierre Poutine"

that makes some sense. it is true that there is very little interest here re: canadian politics and politicians. on the other hand, i did follow the latest election there and Trudeau's campaign in particular, and i'm not so sure i could even randomly identify him if someone on the street walked up to me and presented his picture. hmmm.. maybe. i don't know a single American who has a problem with Canada(ians). or even have bad things to say.

i do think Trudeau could have answered the question with more discretion. a politician at that level should be able to spin a negative question like he was asked into a positive reply.

PC MP dyna mo: what are you talking about, we love the US! can't wait to get there and chill with BO.
