Cell phones and computer speakers

If I place my cell phone on my desk, and have my speakers on, the speakers go completely ape shit with a bunch of feedback and annoying sounds right before I get a call, text, or notification. So fucking annoying having to put my cell all the way on the other side of my office if I want to listen to music.

Does this happen to anyone else? Can it be fixed?

Your speakers are picking up the radio transmission between your mobile and the tower.
Switch to a phone or speakers (or both) that were manufactured in the 21st century. :winkwink:

That's old school. :upsidedow

Basically there's s non-linear circuit element in the phone, like a transistor or diode, and if it's near a strong pulsing radio signal it will act as a rectifier. If the pulsation is in the range of your speakers, you'll hear what you're hearing. (Something like that, I know there's a technical detail or two that I'm missing..)

yup 2006 called and they want their cell phone and speakers back! It use to happen all the time and I knew I was getting a text before I got one but that was pre android phones for me.. before 2009.

I know that this never happened with Verizon phones since they use a different signal than all the other providers.

So you're saying the problem is with my Motorola Razr and not my speakers?

No lie, I used to hang out with the guy that designed most of the first Razr. He had a nice place and his portfolio in his basement made me mad because it was so good.. :upsidedow

That's why I had to say "No lie" lol

But he was dating my friend's sister, so we went over there a lot to do random things. High school days were boring, though..

oh if he was dating your friends sister then it must be true.. Normally when someone says "no lie" they are lying or at least stretching the truth but since you're so closely related.. I'll believe you..

Technically it's the GSM frequency range, a stone age Nokia would do it too. They do have sheilded speakers that fix the problem. Once you get a phone from the last decade or so it probably won't be an issue anymore as they use different frequency ranges.

That would be Rob......... Again!

I used to get that on an Android phone from AT&T
Haven't gotten it in years on iPhone 4S, 5S, 6 on Verizon

So not sure if it was Android or AT&T causing the issue
