Namecheap royally fucked me.
So I had/have a good domain, it showed expiration date of 2020 and I login every month to my namecheap account to make sure I don't have any expiring domains I want to renew.
Today I went to the url of one of my domains and I see it expired, I was like WTF. Since its an LLLL.com I was mad, went to my namecheap account and I see expiration date year 2020. Support gives me this answer: Thank you for holding. Unfortunately, the domain name expired on 3/9/2016. The information in your account was displayed incorrectly, so I updated it. It is still possible to renew the domain at the regular rate Yes, I understand your frustration. Unfortunately, the domain name was last renewed on 2/18/2015. Since the incorrect expiry date was indicated in the account, no renewal notice was sent This has cost me some money in lost revenue, is there anything I can do? is this normal? One thing I know is that after over 10 years with them I'm moving away, where to though? |
many registrars play games like that... when the name is worthless they send you a reminder just about every day before and after the domain expires...
when the domain is actually valuable, many registrars seem to have glitches like you've experienced... :-/ to prevent issues like this I would invest in some domain management software, or at the very least create a spreadsheet with all your domains and their expiration dates... also, namesilo.com is pretty good, use coupon "cheaper" to save $1 off any new domain or transfer... |
Dirty bastards!
|
Where should I move to though? Namesilo any good? Site look like its from 98

20,000 domains on and off at namecheap since 2004. Internet.bs and Tucows are both better. If the domain is worth it, you might want to consider markmonitor.
|
Seems like this issue happened to another 3 of my domains that was already dropped and registered by someone else. I am mad as hell.
|
Why no auto renew? I have Aall my domains on auto renew so if I ever decide to drop one I go and UNcheck it. Never an issue. :)
Anyway best of luck (and listen to Woj above, too). |
My Namecheap account still shows six domains I sold a year ago.:disgust

Name cheap gives you a grace period of 1 month usually

Before they switched their control panel, there used to be a synchronization button, which would sync the domains shown in your account with the notes of Enom. They just never told you that it was Enom they synched with. Now, the function is called something else, but it is still there for the same purpose, to get a "live" sync of your domains in NC account to match with Enom account. I guess you could say, a glorified White Label... |

Fuck man that is just terrible, I'm not sure what to say.
Some days it just feels like everyone is fucking with you. I hope you get it back, I don't know from your post if it's now completely lost. I do hope it resolves in your favor, keep us informed. |

Take a walk in the park to forget about it

Very sad to her this... 95% of my domains are at namecheap, now I feel quite uncomfortable...

I went through something similar with Moniker around the time of their "overhaul" clusterfuck.

Site may not look hype or super fancy as many others (and much worse registrars) but the back end is intuitive and rock solid. Has everything I ever needed, runs fast, smooth, transparent pricing (with volume discounts and free WHOIS privacy), no issues with support either. Have earned just about every penny so far and it's not a coincidence they may as well be the fastest growing registrar lately (with a huge help of the Moniker disaster). Recently also introduced their own marketplace that makes for painless trading of domains with fellow registrars. So yes I can recommend NameSilo. |
