OneHungLo is right. As an Asian man, I cringe when someone calls me an Oriental. The phrase Oriental is used to describe inanimate objects like Oriental Rugs or Oriental Dresses..not people. It's a derogatory term. It would be like calling an American Black person an African or a monkey.

Obviously I can't speak for Asian people so I did a little searching and found this:

Seems to only be considered derogatory in North America. I myself use the term Asian but the area was referred to as The Orient so I'm not entirely sure why Oriental is so un-PC.

This is exactly the wording, Orient means East, I suppose, I was slightly incorrect stating similar to European rather than British or English, although, similar to Westoner or Eastoner.

I'd always say, let's go enjoy a Chinese this evening, or so for some Thai, some Indian, But I don't say, let's get some USA for a burger or a Sunday roast, I don't say, let's get some British food.
