Drug Dealer: Prince Spent $40,000 At A Time On Pain Pills For 25 Years
Prince's former drug dealer has revealed the full extent of the late-star's secret drug addiction - telling how the superstar was hooked on powerful opiates for over 25 years.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Mail Online, the performer's long-time dealer - who asked to be named only as Doctor D - revealed the singer would spend up to $40,000 a time on six-month supplies of Dilaudid pills and Fentanyl patches - both highly addictive opioid pain killers. $80,000 a year for 25 years is a lot of little red corvette's.

Not a very expensive habit for a music star I suppose.
I remember reading that Ron Wood of The Rolling Stones said he was spending $2,000 a day on cocaine for a few decades... and that was in 1970's, 1980's, and 1990's money value. |

You know how coke is. It hits quick and then 10 minutes later you want a little more. And since you don't go to sleep you just kinda do it until you run out. lol For a guy like Ron Wood...it wasn't easy to run out of it. |

80 grand a year isn't that much. Maybe he was getting a killer deal buying in bulk LOL.
They talked about him taking perks LOL yeah right. No hardcore junky is going to take those in large amounts. Maybe if you ran out of the good stuff but if you are taking them everyday for years you would be taking the good stuff. |
there's only one doctor d

For $80,000 I can't even begin to imagine the number of Dilaudid he bought and consumed on a daily basis. Having known a couple of people addicted to prescription opiates...I can tell you that they were taking upwards of 50 painkillers a day. More than enough to kill the average person. Hell, if I take ONE xanax I'm down for 24 hours. Yet I know people in recovery that at one point were taking over 50 a day and still functioning almost "normal". Prescription drugs kill more people every year than every other so-called "illegal" drug combined. It's a raging epidemic. |

Prince made more of a mark on the world and impacted more lives than just about anyone I can imagine tut tutting about his drug use. So I'm going to choose to believe that, if that's what it took, that's what it took. If it is even true.

He loved to party....getting hooked on downers is NOT partying. He took them for his fucked up hip problems to stop the pain. And like many, many people....he got addicted. It wasn't "demons" or any of those cliches. It was just something that happened to him. You are 100% correct. :) |
he could have just hired a doctor to do it to be safe. :2 cents::2 cents:

The feds cracked down on that a couple of years back. It's now illegal for doctors to prescribe high doses and for pharmacies to fill it. While I totally disagree with the govt. being able to tell people what they can and can't do with their own bodies...the epidemic of prescription pills has gotten so bad and so deadly that something had to be done. My guess is that Prince was probably finding it harder and harder to get what he needed legally. |
You can always trust what a drug dealer says. Those are top-notch, stand-up guys.

And of course in the last few decades...doctors and pharmacies have become the drug dealers. It's not necessarily the old cliche shady guy on the street corner. Especially for consumers who are wealthy. |

He may have had a lot of trouble getting enough. For instance, the stories of him pacing around agitated in a Walgreens parking lot for 4 days prior to his death. I'm theorizing that he wasn't getting enough pills to satisfy what his body had become accustomed to. Effectively detoxing without wanting to and lowering his resistance level. And then he gets his hands on a new supply and takes the same amount he was used to taking on a daily basis and it killed him. I read Keith Richards book "Life" and in it he talks about the friends he lost to overdoses over the years. And he said that was always the case. They would get "clean" for a couple of months and then decide to use again. And they would use the same amounts they had been using in the past...and it turned out to be a lethal dose. |
Wow, this is crazy...
|
i'm going to wait for the toxicology report. he doesn't look like an opiate zombie to me. his eyes don't look bad enough to me to be that strung out on opiates. besides, his former drug dealer says so isn't really well,......

not saying that's not the case. i just don't like the anonymous dope dealer tells tabloid Prince bought $40k of dope at a time angle combined with Prince's activity level. can you play guitar like that strung out on opiates to the point of death? certainly peeps like keith richards played while loaded out on drugs, not saying it can't happen, but percocets and shredding guitar at Prince's level seems pretty hard to sustain. |

Remember about 10 years ago when Rush Limbaugh left his program and went to rehab for a few months? He was taking over 50 "downers" a day. And yet he had plenty of energy, lost a ton of weight, did his show every day on the radio, gave speeches all over the country and played celebrity golf tournaments all over the world. You never would have known he was a junkie until his maid came out and disclosed that she had been the one getting him his pills for years. Don't mistake the effect a xanax would have on your or me as opposed to the non-effect on an addict. Keith Richards wrote and recorded some of the greatest rock songs of all times and did world tours while he was a full on heroin addict. Addiction isn't like "partying". If I took a couple of pain pills and washed it down with some Jack Daniels I would be FUCKED UP. But a guy whose addicted for years? They could do that and not feel a thing, except "normal". |

i'm quite familiar already. i live on earth too ya know. :upsidedow unfortunately, i know more than 1 addict and have lost friends to addiction more than i care to remember and have been through rehab and recovery myself from pills, benzos, atavan specifically. i've lived in half way houses with junkies and methheads fresh out of rehab. that's the primary reasons why i'm not going with anonymous doctor d the dealer ratting out Prince to a tabloid and am waiting on the toxicology report. |
