Is ALEXA still relevant?

These days I mean ?

pornguy 04-28-2016 06:01 AM

Alexa has always been relevant if you know what your reading and how to apply it to your sites/network. Its a good metric to use but Not a general picture of the web its self.

I thought back in the days it only got stats from webbars people had installed
That's why I was curious to know if it's still relevant

it was never accurate and some old ways to bump up the ranking still work for years.

It depends where you get your traffic from.

When you PAY for the pro plan you get a lot of relative information. When you PAY for the Alexa Web Services Alexa AWS it's OK.

When you use their free services you get what you pay for :2 cents:

Alexa data is not accurate but it is relative.

I live by the free version... And so do my investors. If I hit 500 K they all want their money back, so I try to keep it under 400 K .... Everybody is happy... Gunning for 100 K and once I get there, I will raise at least that much in dollars.

So, regardless what you or I think, the money guys read it as Bible:2 cents:

"Alexa data is not accurate but it is relative."

I totally agree with this.

Dead on the money
Alexa is very easy to game (AVN and XBiz both do it) and certain sites like GFY are prone to artificially high alexa ranks, but it can be a decent indicator IF you know how it works and how to read it and can spot an artificially high or low ranking and know why it is ranked the way it is.

It is not precise or accurate, alexa rank tracks traffic through those who have the Alexa toolbar installed and it can be very easily manipulated.

I have seen a site jump way high in rankings after paying to pass from estimated metrics to certified metrics. They then stopped paying and ranking tanked :2 cents:

Alexa does give a rough estimate on the volume of traffic but I don't know exactly how accurate the numbers really are, depending on who has the toolbar installed or not. If you ask me, that would mean that even more traffic is hitting a site because what about the surfers that do not have the toolbar installed? They are still hitting the site ....but not being counted. So yeah, I don't know for sure, but I have always followed it, but never took it very serious.

But sure, I still think it is relevant ...to a certain extent.

Just checked my paysite rank - 37,035

I have the Alexa Pro Account and your website has nice demographics -- I might consider buying advertising on either your website or some paid posts on your Twitter feed.
