An Argentinian footballer has been shot dead while defending his wife and son during a botched robbery at his home.

Rodrigo Espindola, 26, was killed after being shot in the stomach while defending his home in Montre Grande, Buenos Aires.

Dramatic video footage captured the moment the footballer, who was a central defender for Neuva Chicago, was shot dead outside his home.

The burglars can be seen driving into his garage. The footballer - who plays in Argentina's top division - then approaches the garage with his son and can be seen looking inside.

But he suddenly appears to pick his son up and run away as one of the gunmen runs from the garage.
