Affordable router that has bandwidth management features?
I want to give my neighbors access but I want to either limit it OR have some kind of prioritization feature where their traffic can't ever fuck with mine
Does it exist? |
The only solution I came up with thus far is to use this older router I have and only enable B and G
That is kind of a dumb solution |
no there is nothing cheap that will do that.

The closest you'll find on the consumer market with traffic prioritisation features for guests is something like this below. AC1750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router Archer C7 Supports 802.11ac standard - the next generation of Wi-Fi Simultaneous 2.4GHz 450Mbps and 5GHz 1300Mbps connections for1.75Gbps of total available bandwidth Dual USB Ports - easily share a printer locally and files & media with networked devices or remotely via FTP server Guest Network Access provides secure Wi-Fi access for guests sharing your home or office network AC1750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router Archer C7 - Welcome to TP-LINK |
Those are nice routers but I had them a lot
Is the athena pretty good? |
There must be some way to do this
What about making an extra computer into a repeater and using a software solution? I would like to limit them to about 30 megs Looks like B would give them 11 megs while G would give them 54 (I'm just thinking about making them a second hotspot by wiring their router to my main router which should limit them) But prioritization would be great because I want the best ping times on earth possible |
Something like this could help you
300Mbps Wireless N Router TL-WR841ND - Welcome to TP-LINK if you are looking for features like IP based bandwidth control. |

Seems to do exactly as MrMaxwell needs which is the type of thing I need to tbh. I have guests stay & it's not the first time using their phone & IPad at the same time reduced our IPTV down just a bit too much. Thanks for the link :thumbsup |
