Correct me if I am wrong, but Venezuela is sitting on one of the world's largest oil reserves. The problem with this is the largest customer of their oil - The United States - is now one of the world's top producers of oil and needs to import oil a lot less than in the past. The economy in Venezuela is based on selling oil, and that is no longer working.

These countries who have economies that depend on oil sales are going to have some serious issues. Importing oil will no longer be an option. At a certain point in time it will be much cheaper for countries to produce their own oil and oil imports will shrink.

Saudi Arabia is fucked. Russia too.

Yeah, that's why Americans want to emigrate in Venezuela or Cuba and not vice versa.

There are some inherent flaws in socialism (economic calculation problem) and it will never be successful. Oil price is not important, there are many rich countries without natural resources.

In many countries like Suriname, Venezuela, Brazil, it cost more to bring the oil up, than you get money from it at this moment. Even Saudi Arabia is producing under the market value.

In the end i support sustainable energy, wind, solar, sea, doesn't matter. The countres that rely on Oil like Saudie Arabia have to much power/ influence and supporting a lot of terrorism. Taking care of your own energy will be better for the environment and the world.

Had a Venezuelan friend stay with me 3 months last year September-November. Beautiful country,gas is cheap but minimum wage is like $11/$12 month. Can't find anything there toliet paper, paper towels, etc... Talk to her every few days and she sends me pictures of shit, grocery store has limits and like zero selection so most buy shit on the black market. Politicians now working 2 days a week due to electric outages. So beautiful country with cheap gas but stores are bare, internet sucks, electric outages, likely to get shot for any cell phone as robbery/murder seems normal. She wants to come back for a vacation soon so might have her another 3 months. :2 cents:

The only think propping up Saudi Arabia was it's oil. Now that the United States can produce more oil than we need, we need to buy a lot less oil from others. Saudi Arabia is screwed, and at the very same time their importance has been minimized.

Wait until China starts producing more oil than the United States, which will most likely happen in the next ten years. At a certain point in time no one will be exporting oil. And while that doesn't sound like a big deal, it is - The entire military strategy since before WWII has been based on oil and who produces it. The only reason the Middle East has any importance at all is because of their oil; They put the screws to us during the OPEC crisis in the 1970s.
